This is a spin-off from Carl's heartbreak thread and subsequent recommended remedies. We know a large number of yachtsmen own planes, but for the non-megayacht crowd, bet there's a lot of boaters with RVs too. Whatcha got? And where's your favorite "must go to" locale? Judy
While a 22' Proline Center console would not be considered a yacht, and my Harley Road King is not an RV, there are a number of good trips to be had from South Florida. One of my favorites is going down to the farmlands on Krome Ave. From there we head south to Alabama Jacks for Conch Fritters and a Kalik. On the way back, a stop at Gilbert's for some live music and one last one. Carl, does this sound familar?
Mothership If you've got the riders, we have the mothership......... Problem is, as other have stated, we cannot get the 27' Doral and the 45' coach together in the same location without hiring drivers...... Your support group mixed with the hard-love handlers is a tribute to you, Carl. Take care of yourself, do what you love, and everything else will fall into place.
Nice Prevost H3-45! Truly Ruffin' it! Ironic advice Stan. I was just having that conversation with someone a few moments ago. YF is my first love and it's time to start living the life. Booking a flight to Antigua for the Yacht Show tonight. Never been, but seems like the perfect escape. I'm fortunate that business is a pleasure. I'm also fortunate for the friends I've made on YF. You top the list. BTW... I've often thought about a motorhome. A yacht for those of us with more sense than dollars, but was shattered by the vision of a Saturday Night Live skit given my last name... Front Desk: "Welcome to Cozy Campers Campground. What is your name sir?" Me: "Carl Camper" Front Desk: "Yes, I know you are camping, but what is your name?" Me: "I shoulda bought a boat."
Have a great time in Antigua, Carl. The charter show is one of the best functions in all of yachting. The only way to see the USA is NOT in a Chevrolet (a song far too old for most YF'ers). Nothing like floating on a cloud down the open road. To answer the second part of Judy's question, we have taken our coach to the far four corners of the country plus Mexico & Canada several times. Having spent plenty of time navigating both coasts from the wet side, they keep no secrets from us. The best core trip has to be the loop during the Spring that includes Santa Fe and Taos, NM (younger daughter is the Stage Manager for the SF Opera Company), followed by a few days at the Aspen Food & Wine Festival, continuing north through the Tetons to Yellowstone, then easting to Mt Rushmore through the Black Hills and Badlands, and further east to south hitting the big cities along the Mississippi. Finish on Bourbon Street. Much like chartering a yacht, the recently expanded RV rental programs are probably a more economical solution than owning (in the spirit of the 3 F's, don't buy; rent).
Jorge, if you've got room in your group for one more rider next time to do the above, please let me know. Love to come along. My day rides this summer have taken me to Key West, Fort Myers, Stuart, and all the local stuff in between, especially the Redlands. More rainy rides than dry ones.
Those seeking an excuse to ride May 20th in Florida, may I suggest the following: Rock n' Roll Sunday: May 20, 2012 - Greenacres Community Park
This isn't too far from me. My bike needs some exercise and I need to get away from the keyboard. I'll go if others from YF go...
thanks judy for starting this, last year a friend and his wife took the year off rented a motor home like some one mentioned and hit every state then to mexico and canada in one year what a great adventure they had, bob has spent 35 years crabing in the bering sea and had never spent more that one month on dry land , this is intresting and exiting to see other views that people have thanks travler PS judy you ever get out west look me up and i will show you a real trawler
Thanks, Travler! I have you on my list next time I'm in PNW. I know your trawler well - she's beautiful and the real deal (previous owner was my client). Have been PNW twice recently but short trips and too cold for cruising. We have an Airstream RV and are headed to the Great Lakes this summer. Best place ever for road trips are Canadian Maritimes. Trawler on... Judy
Look me up while you're in the area Judy. We bounce around a bit through the summer, but would welcome the opportunity to share some of Michigan's best with you if the chance presented itself.
tic toc Technically speaking, the ride is today. Some sleep might be in order, prior. Remember, riding is respite - good for ones mental state.
