I believe I saw some more recent photos of her 'redecoration' somwhere recently and I was NOT impressed at all...lost some of her charm of the original. I was interested in buying her myself at one time.

Fiberglass or Wood ?

That Yachtworld ad calls her a glass vessel. ....from my memory she was wood.

Alsden Hawksbill for sale

I went aboard a fiberglass Alden hawksbill in Wickford RI last summer.
Definitely a "work in progress" with some evidence of improvements but still in need of massive amounts of cash and TLC.

Thurston and Haigh yachtbrokers have the listing and it can be seen in Yachtworld. Is this the Alden hawksbill you are thinking about acquiring?

A truly handsome vessel but what a lot of work to restore it to "yacht" standards!

I believe the original 'Hawksbill' was a wooden versions of 56' built by Hodgdons Bros in Maine

There was a boat named Hawksbill docked at the Essex Island Marina , Essex Conn during the 60's. She was designed byAlden had a large doghouse type cabin and lare cockpit, flush deck forward, clipper bow,with one mast, was mostly a power vessel, She was built for and owned by writer Bill Hawks fromNew York. She spent some winters south and some at Minnefords in city island

Good luck with the Alden. I went aboard about July of last summer. I was simply motoring through the harbor in my boat and as we went close by the Alden we were told we were welcome to come aboard.

I took a quick (10 minute) tour of the deck and interior. The machinery space looked like it had seen some improvements, but some interior spaces were not finished and there were endless areas that needed upgrading/renewal/cosmetic work. The boat did not appear neglected but but it was not cosmetically in yacht condition and there seemed to be many challenges -- galley, lighting, hardware, wood work, and so forth. I remember thinking it was sort of an old, tired blank canvas -- tons of potential, but a daunting amount of work.

I remember Alden designed this boat in several variations, from a clipper-bowed sport fish to an attractive long-distance motor yacht. The hull tooling was designed to accept inserts to change the bow profile. Hogdon Brothers in Boothbay Maine had the molds and tooling. I wonder what happened to the molds? It was a very attractive design.

Alden Sportfishing Cruiser

I was just going thru some old paper files and found this clipping I had saved of an 1941 50 ft Alden sportfishing cruiser.

You can see the lineage with the later Hawksbill design

It also had reminded me of another old wooden sportfisher, a 1941 43' Carl Adams I had once owned for a short period of time. Rumor had it that Hemmingway once fished off it.

This vessel looks like it has some sort of mast on it?...maybe for a crow's nest or something.

Maybe I'll put something over on the sportfish zone and see if any old timers recognize it.
