  1. 38-meter Project 'Garfield' To Build At Dynamic Supercats
Dynamic Supercats has announced the sale of a 38-meter luxury catamaran that now has the name Project 'Garfield'. Dynamic Supercats is a division of Dynamic Boats based in Miami. The owners of the new catamaran aren't newbies as they own a 25-meter cat and are upgrading. Since they couldn't find the perfect fit for them on the brokerage market, they decided to build their own custom catamaran employing Dynamic Supercats. Project Garfield will serve as the yard's first larger build.
  2. Cantu Design and DFD Design were called upon to flesh out the design for the owners. The owners wanted a close connection to the water and this sometimes sounds very cliché in the industry but many designers do not execute on this principle fully. The owners will certainly enjoy the transom area of this 38-meter vessel which was designed to match the ideals of their brief. When not in use, the central portion between the hulls is stowed at deck height but once at anchor it can be lowered to water level to match the height of the two hulls resulting in a large beach club area that can then be accessorized with the owner's preference of outdoor furniture.
  3. Part of the brief was for the yacht to have high freeboard, very shallow draft and copious deck and external space. Looking at this aerial rendering we can see the emphasis on these areas. The bow has its own areas which are comprised of the traditional bow nets/trampoline... sunken al fresco areas on either side. Sunpads are available on the roof of the forward main deck when at anchor. The sun deck is vast with a hard top that has glazing inserts -good for letting in direct light and also for a quick glance at the main sheet-. Aft sun deck has sunpads and a glass-bottomed dip pool. The aft main cockpit is characterized by an enormous sunpad and al-fresco pieces for evening lounging.
  4. Garfield also takes into account sustainability in terms of some of its future operations. It will have diesel-electric propulsion which should be able to run the vessel up to 14-knots. They are targeting 24-hours silent operations when at anchor. The yacht will have trans-Pacific capability as well. Retractable centerboards also help with the shallow draft. For sailing the vessel feature a square-top main sheet and three fore sheets on rollers.
  5. Guest accommodation has been envisioned for up to twelve (12) guests although the exact number of cabins is not known at this stage. The owners have experience sailing as they own a 25-meter sailing yacht as aforementioned and they are big on the social aspect of having a boat. To this end, the main social areas of the yacht are large and specific for social gathering. The galley is on the main deck across from the main salon which adds to the non-segregated ethos. This feature was requested specifically by the owner.
  6. Although news about this particular luxury catamaran has recently surfaced, the vessel has been in development from the planning phase for almost 3 years. With everything in place, actual construction is expected to commence in December of this year and take approximately 2 years to complete. Large windows in the hull and floor-to-ceiling windows in the superstructure are sure to go a long way to achieving the owner's wish for greater connection with the water surrounding them. A final cool feature is the glazing on the aft-most section of the hulls allowing a side-on view of the water when descending the stairs towards the transom.
