    Hi all,

I was wondering how I should go about recording my hours at sea etc so that I can do my Yachtmaster at some stage... Where can I get a booklet for recording this? Apparently you can download one from the MCA website but i couldnt find anything...

Also does anybody know the exact way of getting a Seamans Discharge book, specifically a South African who ha done it recently and knows the routine and requirements etc...

    Thanks for your help

    Matt

    Hi,

If you have a job on a boat apply to the flag administration for a discharge book.

You could also join the PYA and get one of their books which is accepted by the MCA.

On the form its not really clear where you have to post your application form.
Any idea to whom or to where I must post it?

Regarding log books...How valid is a PYA log book? I mean, do the MCA frown upon anyone using a PYA log book, or do they prefer a proper discharge book from a county, such as a british, caymen, etc etc..?
The reason I ask, is that my current Captain is advising me to apply for a British Seamans Discharge Book, as he says that he MCA prefer that. I have been using the PYA log book for over two years now, so am reluctant to swap over...any advice??

    cheers

    Hi,

If you read this from the start you would have seen in Post 2 where I wrote that the MCA accept PYA Log Books. If they didn't then there would not be any point in having them. Info can be found on the PYA Website.

I know that the MCA accept the PYA log book as I have one myself and have used it with the MCA, however, an institute or person can accept something, but still frown upon it.

    Thanks

One can get a Discharge Book from South African Maritime and Safety Authority. Go to their website and download all the forms. You also need to have STCW....and ENG1 to apply...
    Good luck!

    Hi,
I work on a Gebrolta registered boat, would you mind sending a link for that? so for this seamans book you can do it all by internet and get it sent to you. I dont have to leave the boat?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,

You could have found this in about 5 Secs with Google.

    http://docstoc.asterpix.com/searchc...les/downloadFile.php?fileID=212&p=0&t=2421491

You can't do it over the internet but can by hand, mail or courier

You might also want to make sure where your boat is registered and where you are on the planet as neither place you list seem to actually exist as spelt.
