pneumatic pop-up electronics enclosure

    I'm looking for where you can buy these pneumatic pop-up enclosures that are very popular on sportfish. Any downside to these?

    Yeah, if they break you cannot use your electronics unless you have a way to get to the backside of the console and unbolt it, then you need a way to pin it in the upright position. You're better off using an electric ram like many manufacturers use for small windshields that open....I cannot think of the popular one that Cabo uses.

    With a little planning they can also be done using gas springs like you see on the rear hatches on SUV's (except stainless marine versions!). This set of pop up's uses 50# charge springs on the larger pop-up and 40# on the smaller one.

    Thanks! Those were custom made for a 63 we built a few years ago. The lids are 2" Divinycell foam cored and the sides and instrument faces are made out of King Starboard. Once you figure out the geometry for using the gas springs it isn't very difficult to install them if you have existing boxes or ones with lifts now.
