  1. 98-meter Superyacht "Aviva" Launches At A&R
The flagship of German superyacht builder Abeking & Rasmussen has been splashed. The 98-meter superyacht is the next superyacht for an experienced owner who spends alot of time onboard. It is a step-up in size for them too as this one is 98-meters LOA. The design of the new "Aviva" is by Reymond Langton in collaboration with Toby Silverton, showcasing a relatively straight and long bow. Certain design attributes are reminiscent of the owner's previous yacht but that is perhaps where the similarities end.
  2. The new Aviva is an interesting build taking around 33-months from contract signing to launch date. The superyacht is also relatively well-finished at launching, so intensive sea trials and other testing is all that is left to do. Spring 2017 is the delivery time period set for Aviva to be handed over to her owner. The exterior is by Reymond Langton as well as the interior. The interior is described as "Mystical" by A&R and boasts some very interesting features. For example, there is a multipurpose court that is going to be finished for squash and paddle tennis. Just to give you an idea, the dimensions of this internal court are 20-meters X 10-meters X 6-meters.
  3. Below the waterline, two bow and two stern thrusters ensure Aviva has pin-point accuracy while maneuvering in tight quarters. There is the standard shaft and rudder set-up but her propulsion is actually hybrid. As another example, Aviva can sail at a speed of 11-knots without actually engaging her main engines. Top speed is expected to be 20-knots but seatrials will confirm this figure. A&R suggests that the hull shape of this superyacht is such that it should aid in a 20% reduction in drag. Although a layout has not been available, it appears that guest accommodation may be on the forward main deck with the owner having a suite on one of the upper decks. It appears her tender storage is in the traditional aft lower deck area served by two side hatches and a fold out transom hatch.
