  1. JFA launches first Long Island 85-foot sailing catamaran

French manufacturer JFA just launched the first unit of their new Long Island class, an 85-foot sailing catamaran. In a slight departure from what is considered the norm these days, instead of composite, the hulls were manufactured in aluminium. However, the superstructure was done in composite. The design of the Long Island 85-footer is by Naval Architect Marc Lombard. The interior is also supposed to be by Marc Lombard as well.

As with larger catamarans, the guest and crew accommodation is distributed in the hulls. Nothing different here on the Long Island 85-footer. The starboard side hull hosts a guest cabin, the owner’s office and the master bathroom. The portside hull is home to another guest cabin, the galley, crew mess as well as two crew cabins. As is usually the case, the master suite is located forward on the main deck straddling the two hulls. This not only creates a large space for the owner to utilize but they also have direct access to the expansive trampoline/net area on the bow between the two hulls. The accommodation is for up to six persons (guests) and four crew members. The first 85-foot Long Island unit yard number 24C is powered by two Yanmar 380 horse power engines.
