Dumb question: what are they picking her up by? Do mega-yachts typically have lift points designed and built in? (sorry, biggest thing I've dealt with lifting was 33')

    Hi,

Lurssen Bardenfleth is the old Fr Schweers yard, they use a side launch platform that lowers down into the river.

The modern series of yachts are a bit heavier than the platform was designed to operate with so they supplement this with the use of a floating crane and slings.

Most mega yachts cannot be lifted successfully in slings and once finished they do not to the best of my knowledge have any lifting points built in.

Large yachts and small ships are lifted normally on either a marine railway or a synchrolift system where the keels can be supported throughout the operation.

An exception to this that I was told about a few years ago is the Vosper designed WPB 110' Island Class US Coastguard Patrol Boats where the keel had to be kept OFF the blocks throughout the whole process. These boats were fraught with major problems right from the outset.

Pacific (Project Josi), the new Lurssen's 85 meter yacht, should be launched in the next days.

She resembles a military vessel, just like SKAT.

"Phoenix²" is nearing completion she is doing final tests and then should shortly be on he delivery cruise I guess. She turned out nice, interestingly is that she actually as a figurine on her bow, that is a supposed to be a phoenix if I am seeing correctly. She is also flying the red ensign from her stern and the German flag from the starboard mastarm.

Not sure what I think of this yacht.... while SKAT looks distinctly military, I find Pacific just looks like the designer wanted to go that route, but then chickened out at the last minute before signing off the drawings.

SKAT was anchored outside my office windows yesterday, I really don't like the fake military look. Why make a fine boat look like a Grey-Line work boat?
