My Insurance Company just kicked me to the curb. The Underwriters won't touch a boat 30 years old, even though I have never filed a claim. I have a 1987 43' Post. I boat in New England mostly on Cape Cod and the Islands. U.S. Boaters wants $1,200.00 more than I was paying. Boat is out of water 6 months out of the year.

I had a boat prior to Sandy that was over 30 years old was insured by Boat US. However they were purchased by Gieco a few years ago so i am not sure about their underwriting on older vessels at this juncture.

I will Say they paid me out the top line number on the policy (allowed me to get a good chunk of cash my current vessel) and paid out salvage costs separately. Dependent on your vessels stated value for your policy that will drive the cost. I currently pay around $110.00 per $10,000.00 of coverage for a 1999.

My 1989 43' Post is insured by BoatU.S./Geico. I have had no claims experience on this boat but had a great claims experience about 10 years ago on a 31' express sportfish that sustained some fiberglass/paint damage. She was insured by BoatU.S. as well.

Boat/US Geico wrote a liability policy on my 1975 without a survey last year, no hassle at all. I didn't even try for hull insurance.

I use to have Boat US. After hurricane sandy came through, my rate went up 25%, even without ever making a claim. I now use charter lakes. I have had them for 4 years now with no problems.
