  1. ISA sells first ISA 140 hybrid megayacht

Good news comes out of Italy with ISA selling an ISA 140 hybrid megayacht. The landmark yacht is designed by Andrea Vallicelli with an interior by Nuvolari-Lenard and will be able to sleep ten guests in five cabins. It's not surprising that the ISA 140 resembles the successful ISA 120 series and using this to build upon in improvements. She is being constructed using a single mould making her the largest composite hull made by the Italian yard.

Looking closer at the hybrid aspect of this new order with Siemens melding the conventional and electric engines. The conventional aspect of the yacht will be powered by diesel engines -pretty much as normal- linked with waterjets providing a top-end speed of 32-knots and a cruising speed in the region of 26-knots. Under power, the electricity generation will come via two shaft generators on gearbox while at low speed, like 8-knots, main engines stop and waterjets are powered by electric ones with generators supplying power.
  2. Some of the expected benefits are a reduction in hours on both engines and generators, reduction in consumption as well as gas emissions, and decibel readings. Maintenance would be reduced as well because of the reduced work-load on each system. The new megayacht is already well underway in construction and will be delivered in the Summer of 2014.
