    Looking at DeFever 44 80's model for 1st trawler to cruise intercostal and Bahamas, is this the right boat?

    In general, DeFever built decent boats that have held up fairly well. If you find one that has been well maintained, it can be an excellent boat for your purpose. Be on the lookout for typical "Taiwanese Tub" deficiencies (decks, window leaks, tanks, blisters..) A detailed survey is critical as are stabilizers.

    For some reason, I have had a rash of Defever 49s come thru since December.
    Perkins and John Deere engines.
    I think it's a decent boat also, no big negatives.
    Just watch those fuel cells.

    Is a most honest and realistic statement.
    I have been trying to say the same in my comments.
    Judy just has the more correct words and sweeter voice.

    BTW, One of my 49s (Tub) will be on the market next month. Look for Jax broker listing then.

    Thanks :) For clarification, I didn't invent the term Taiwanese Tub, but it sure works well for what must be thousands of boats that were built in a certain era with these vessels varying in quality from yard to yard and sometimes boat to boat. Amazing so many of them are still around and providing pleasure 30 and 40+ years later.
