Helping a customer shop. He is looking at 2006/2008 Hat 64 MYs.
The large difference in a couple of years is C30 - C32 power options.

The customer runs his current ship around 200 hours/year. I do not see more than that on his next ship.
He is also leans on the throttles. Economy not a big issue. The owner leaning to the C32s.

I am an old 3412 fan. IMO a pretty bomb proof engine so I naturally lean to the C30.
I'm hearing bits of bad news about the C32s. Cracking inter-coolers and some kind of on-engine fuel issues.

Are these C32 issues for real? Reliable fix or returning problems?
    Any other issues?
Proposed C32s under warranty for near another year.

I like the C30's. They were based on the same block manufactured since 1978. Very proven motors, and they burn less fuel than the C32's even for the same HP...... They're good motors.

I have not heard of any aftercooler issues at all with the C32's or any other issues. However CAT is recommending replacing the aftercoolers every 7 years now. The C32's are an overhead cam motor and very similar in running (noise etc.) to the C30's. They had a lot of issues with the first 150 sets, but correct that in the beginning. I've run several of the 64' Hatteras MY's on long trips/deliveries. I honestly think 400 gallons less fuel and C18's would've been a better fit for the 64' MY. The 1650 HP will cruise it at over 28-28.5 knots (and 140 gph at 80%, 20 knots @ 100 GPH), and 1550 HP around 26.5 knots 135 GPH C32, and 125 GPH 1550hp C30....Both motors are good. I also ran one with MTU 12v2000's and didn't like how those motors performed in that boat AT ALL, but they cruised 26.5 knots at I think 130 gph. They're good boats, with great capabilities, but wetter than hell. You could take spray over the FB in the GA ICW with a 1-2' chop. I also would take a REALLY hard look at a used Sunseeker 63' Manhattan.....
