6-92 Engine Turning Bolt

    Yo Ho ! I need to buy a socket to turn over my engines , I am no where near my boat today , can one of the Wise men tell me what size . Thanks in advance....

    I use 1-1/2" 3/4 drive socket on my 6-92's.

    Make sure you ONLY turn them in the direction they rotate in as some of them will snap the keyway in I think it's the water pump or something like that if you turn them backwards.

    Even more important, make absolutely sure the stop solenoid is engaged when you bar it over! More than one has accidentally started with a breaker bar on the crankshaft, especially if it's got good compression! It can get really ugly quick unless a ratchet is used.

    You can also just close the air damper on top of the motor.

    Turn them to the right. If it's a counter rotating engine, still turn to the right (like tightening the bolt).
    Take a pair of vice grips and clamp the governor and tie it back in the no-fuel position, just like the shut down coil pulls them.
    There is fresh air in the engine. Just closing the flappers will keep it from running if it tries to start. Then, your hands and wrist are already broken.
    My 12v71s use 1 13/16.

    Why are you turning your engine? Oh, did you drop a valve a few weeks ago?
