The generator fuel line on my 46 Post is fed from a tee on the suction side of the port main dual Racor.
So the port Racor feeds the port main and the generator.

I recently had a DD tech on the boat who told me that this could be a potential issue because it could cause the main to starve for fuel or suck air if the generator is not running.

Does anyone have a similar set up?
Can anyone comment on this set up?
Is it a common set up on a 46 Post to feed the generator and main off the same suction line from the tank?
is it common to tee off on the suction side of the Racor?

The boat had Rahl filters when I purchased it. I had the dual Racors installed when I bought the Boat and I do not recall how the generator was fueled OEM.

    thank you.

My generator is feed, direct from the fwd tank (between the engines).

On top of the rear starboard side of the tank, there are multiple feeds, one for the starboard engine, and one for the generator.

Currently I’m traveling, so can’t send you any pictures, sorry!

My 91 46 is similar to to P46. Starboard tank holds 50 gallons more for the genset and plumbed separately from the tank with its own fuel filter. Never a problem.

This is a big "no-no". NOT a good practice. American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) recommends against sharing a fuel line on a main engine. Your tech was doing you a favor by pointing it out, and for the right reason. That's not to say it doesn't happen, and most times never an issue. If your fuel tank has three pickup tubes, use them, and re-plumb the filters properly. If there is not three pickups, your tank has been replaced and someone screwed up.

Mine tees the same way but off the Starboard motor\rear tank. Run often without the gen running. Never had an issue but understand the potential problem with sharing the intake.

My main boating areas are Lewes, DE, and Hatteras,
My 1982 Post has the genset plumbed off the stbd Racor with no problems. I've used it with the generator both running and not running.
