Sad news for the crew of a 22-meter Maiora yacht. It caught fire yesterday in the Marina di Loano resulting in the death of three crew members. One was able to escape by jumping overboard.

Sad loss of life indeed, lets hope they were not trying to fight the fire from inside the boat.

Hope we get more info... were they trapped in a stateroom with no way out? Died of smoke inhalation in their sleep?

What I read suggested that they were trapped in their stateroom and couldn't get out as to whether they were fighting the fire and got trapped or got trapped while sleeping is something we do not know at this point.

This happened at Miami Beach Marina a couple of years ago, fire crew had to use axes to enlarge a porthole or window to get a trapped crew out. Forgot the boat, may have been a 70' Viking princess

Escape hatches aren't always possible in each room but there should be one forward so adjacent occupants can get out without having to go back thru the boat

I'm pretty sure the boat at Miami Beach Marina they used fire axes on was an 80' Lazzara.

The forward crew quarters on the 80 have an escape hatch. The mid ship master and the two VIPs don't have escape hatch but the stairs are forward enough that an dinginess room fire shouldn't prevent escape

Maybe worth adding a fire axe in there :)
