Computer Illiterate

I must preface this posting with a warning ....you are taking to a somewhat computer illiterate person who came to this technology late in life.

I believe I downloaded this Firefox software at one time in the past but then had trouble opening a number of files that I had saved that required Explorer to open them. Could that be true?

I think it sort of took over my computer and started changing a lot of things?? Its been awhile, so the memory of has faded.

If so how do I avoid that?

Firefox is good except for the very occasional site that only seems top be setup for IE. Examples of these can be found sometimes when using sites with forms in them.

Err, I did download Firefox, and do use it frequently. However, I have NOT experienced any big advantage over IE. In fact IE has one real advantage, my resident spyware blocker works only with IE. Which of course is not the fault of Firefox. Just the way the cookie crumbles in the real world.

Safari? Firefox? IE? You guys must be nuts, Opera is the way to go. I run it on my PC, Macbook Pro, and FreeBSD desktop running KDE....oh and my Blackberry 8830.

I'm working as an IT security officer ... in the last time firefox and all of it's childs had a lot of vulnerabilities .. more than IE!
In Firefox you can add a lot of ADDINS .. all secure??

.. and stop the mare about MACs are more secure

.. so stop the war!

For any browser you has to update quickly and on time.

... do not go to all the red light sites and other warez sites,
this gives a lot more security

Overall, FIREFOX seems to be the browser with the least number of vulnerabilities. There was a major issue a few weeks back, as discovered by Firefox. An immediate fix was issued. Firefox's "Automatic Update" function ensures all Security Updates get to users as fast as possible.

IE has far more vulnerabilities, owing perhaps to the fact that more people use it. Most updates are available only on the Second Tuesday of the Month (including Critical Updates), except when the updates are deemed to be extremely critical. IE's Automatic Update feature should also be turned ON.

Firefox code is not as robust as IE's, so it loads faster.
Addons as recommended by Mozilla and Microsoft should be the only ones used for their browsers to avoid problems.

I'm sorry, i just need to jump in here and make a correction. (IMO, constructively of course, YMMV)

Firefox code is far more robust than IE. It loads faster because it's cleaner code. No piggy bloated code, loaded with a bunch of crap and overhead. It's loads faster because it follows a well thought out programming architecture, the development plan is aimed at scalability, extensibility, security, and functionality. For these are the primary reasons in which is it so successful and such a superior browser to IE.

I come from a long history of software development, and cringe when I hear people use the word 'robust' and 'microsoft' in the same reference.

Regarding the OP. It was a fantastic show.

Again, I mean no offense to your post, I just felt the compelling desire to throw in a different perspective from someone who's 'been around the block'.

Yes, Firefox loads faster because of it's cleaner code.
IE takes a lot longer because of all the unnecessary stuff/crap that goes with it.
Firefox's program architecture/logic structure was obviously well thought-out, with faster pageloads as one of the objectives. They also avoided a lot of the logic flaws that give rise to many critical patches that IE continuously needs.

Firefox 3 Beta 4 is now out, and preliminary tests show it to be 3times faster than Firefox 2 and 5 times faster than IE7. Still, this is just a Beta release, so a lot more changes to it are coming.

I think we both see FF in the same regard.

FF3 looks to be the flagship with some of the things the team is incorporating, as well, like you said, raw speed and ease of use / updates, etc.

I just hope FF3, when it finally comes out after Beta 5, will benefit a lot more people.
I'm also hearing a lot of hype about IE8.

Vista vs XP

How about these operating systems?

As I understand it Vista is overburdened with a lot of grap that results in its taking up a whole lot more space, and requiring a lot more computer capacity to operate properly.

...and then its being forced down our throats by the computer industry bowing to Microsoft to put it on all new release machines.

Am I wrong?
