She seems not too far from delivery now Ken. Her last sea trials ended yesterday and her name is on her stern now.

Guess I have just not been paying to much attention to the yachting world this past year,...or I certainly wouldn't have missed this one. I was a BIG fan of the development of Maltese Falcon, and participated in a lengthy subject thread on this forum and another one about that vessel.

I even went so far as to suggest a DynaRig catamaran motorsailer
    http://www.runningtideyachts.com/dynarig/

Its very nice to see another DynaRig vessel make it into reality. Certainly a much better , more innovative design than that Russian monstrosity

I don't think Ken would be an owner of patents on the rig. If anything that would be
Gerard Dykstra and/or some combo of the original builder/developer of MF, ..Perini Navi.

BTW, why is it that this subject thread is located under the heading 'motor yachts' ??

The DynaRig catamaran motorsailer in your profile picture is for sure interesting. I feel like we will be seeing more DynaRig vessels come out in the future with the success of the Falcon and soon to be success of Black Pearl.. While I do agree that Black Pearl is MUCH MUCH better looking then SYA I do appreciate the fact that it is different and innovative compared to other vessels.

It’s been almost a year since her launch, I’m just really curious when she will be delivered. I would also think that the next Y series should be coming out of the shed soon too.

Does anyone know if Black Pearl has been built to LY3 or PYC?

She's on her maiden voyage to gibraltar! A year and a half after her initial launch. I'm looking forward to the footage/photos!

    Finally!

BTW it's interesting to see that there are widely different perceptions on who is responsible for designing Blackpearl. The controversy is brought up by people and designers actually involved in the project to put it mildly.

Here's an exert from the press release that arrived this morning...

    ***

The designers Ken Freivokh Design, Nuvolari Lenard and Villate Design all played a significant role in Black Pearl's design evolution. Dykstra Naval Architects designed Black Pearl's three 70 meter (230ft) DynaRig carbon masts and sailing system. The sail area is subdivided into smaller lesser-loaded sails and they can be set or furled by pushing a button. Astonishingly, all 2,900 square meter of sails can be set in 7 minutes. BMT, Nigel Gee collaborated with Oceanco to create Black Pearl's hybrid propulsion system as well as other onboard systems such as waste heat recovery.

Will do! The PR included 400 pixel pics, hardly large enough to publish. I sent a hi-res request a few moments ago.

Finally!!! I know me and others on this site have been looking forward to this day. I can’t wait to see more photos or videos of her under sail.

That's a diplomatic statement and I wonder if satisfactionary for everyone involved.

It’s rumored that she is able to reach up to 30 knots in the right wind and sea conditions. It will be amazing to see if she can reach that especially for her size.
