    Hi everyone....
Bit of an unusual request, but last year my mum was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, she is 52, it is hereditary. As a result of this me and my partner decided it was time to front load our lives and actually do the things we have been dreaming of doing in the future rather than waiting as. The future I may not be able to do them. So we brought a boat to renovate then sail around the world. Our beneteau evasion needed (and still needs) many hours of work. We have been working evenings and weekends solidly for a year (put in about 3000 hrs between us!!) and have made lots of progress, but everything seems to be slowing down. In a desperate bid to get her watertight for winter, we are seeking volunteers, we are in ipswich suffolk. Happy to exchange labour for weekend trips on the Suffolk Coast when the boat is ready. We have to stay in the uk for at least a year to save for travel, so will be around and enjoying the Suffolk Coast in 2016/17. If this is something you may be interested in please get in touch. Thankyou, victoria &mark

    3000 hrs...?
Either she was a complete wreck, or you are over-doing stuff.
Did you have the boat surveyed before purchase or at least inspected by a third party?
Allah knows I have spent 1000s of hours working on my sailboats, but I have also spent 1000s of hours sailing and enjoying them.
Just curious, what exactly have you done to the boat and what is needed?
(Sorry I am on the wrong side of the pond, otherwise I would volunteer to help :D )

Hi Victoria and Mark. Take a look at this site!

    http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ate/seniorshealth/200361.html

To the best of my knowledge, Alzheimers is NOT hereditary. I have had a family member with this, and all studies I have read so far say it isn't! I wouldn't rush into things just because you think you have a limited time on this mortal coil in a sane condition!
If you have never sailed before, I would suggest you take lessons. I would also suggest that buying a boat that needs so much work is going to be a hole in the water than you pour money into...it is called B(Bring) O (out) A (another ) T (thousand) for good reason. Sailing around the world to beat the clock, as it were, requires a whole lot of prep. I also hope you have the deep pockets to do so, coz that is what it requires! Good luck!

Ever watch Popeye? Whimpy: "I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today". Unfortunately your offer sounds a bit like that. May I suggest that you sweeten the deal and offer fractional ownership with the % based on hours worked specified, as in 1% ownership for every 50 hours clocked or such (and keep track of time worked just like a business). You can include a buy-back provision at a specified cash rate or specified days of usage for once the boat is completed. That way, if your dream changes and you decide to just sell the boat once the work is complete, the workers are entitled to real cash for their labor instead of 'Sorry about that. Thanks for your hard work fool'.
