Hi guys, new user from northern Europe here! :) Hope you are all good!
I have recently bought a 1976 Bertram 46-6 MY that was partly submerged. It had water up to the floors in the main cabin. The boat has twin 8V71 with 2 turbos each and intercoolers, and with allison gears. The engines has/has had water in them, and they are stuck now.
I want to try to sell some parts of them, does anyone here have a meaning on witch parts can be useable for others - even if they have been under water? The ourmeters says around 3000 ours.

The castings should be salvageable along with the crankshafts, camshafts and maybe rods, the pistons and liners will be toast as will the valves, guides etc.

Anything else will depend upon how it is when you get them apart as after 3000hrs and even if they didn't get a swim they have had a good innings

Thanks for your answer! I will try and make an ad on them locally, and see if anyone might be interested in some of the parts. Good to know it might be hope for some of them, and maby I'll get some much needed boat-building-money too! :) How about turbos and intercoolers, do they get broken by saltwater? And the Allison gears? (they also have water inside).

The turbos will most likely be beyond help but the truth won't be known till you can get them apart, the casings might be all that is salvageable.

The Coolers could well be re usable if they were Salt Water cooled or stayed full of coolant and did not get salt water in them if FW cooled.

The gears - this applies equally to the timing gears on the ME's and the gearboxes will depend entirely upon the condition when you get them apart.

If you are lucky the gearboxes will not have filled with Sea Water.

I am assuming here that the boat has been submerged in Sea Water.

Ok, I see. I'll start taking it apart to check how things look. It was submerged in seawater yes, only for a day, but the PO did not bother to do anything with engines and gears. It's sad actually, but that is also why I got the boat cheap. Thanks again for your input! :)
