We have a new 1989 Santego 3467 that we are just getting in the water and have found the lock on the sliding back door to be bad. I have contacted a dozen locksmiths and none either work on boats or have anything that would work for that lock. Does anyone know how to get a replacement lock for this door? I have to put all our stuff into the boat for the summer with a door that doesn't lock.

Contact Carver. If you fail there try other Mfgs. like Sea Ray, Silverton and Cruisers. I have a feeling that several will carry the same locks. I always carried about 3 Sea Ray keys that fit many if not most Sea Rays, and many other boats.

BTW, most boat locks are to keep the neighborhood kids from using your boat as a make-out place. They don't offer much security against thieves.

The locks are to keep the honest thieves out. If someone wants in, they will get in and that usually means they are breaking the door glass or frame to force their way in.

I can tell you from experience, that sliding door costs more than ANYTHING you have stored in the cabin. This happened to a friend of mine in Chicago, two kids broke the large sliding glass door on a 46 Maxum and stole some CDs, a bottle of vodka and a few tools. Long story short the door ended up costing over 20k to have taylor make a new one and insurance only covered 6k of that.

If you can't find a new lock and still want to lock it, drill two small holes in the sliding track on each side of the doors. Then buy two small pad locks and secure them.

Problem isn't keeping people out its letting us close the door and still get out.. Went out to the boat today to do some cleaning, closed the door as it was somewhat chilly outside and door would not open. Lock is very messed up.

I have a sliding door on my house from the late 60's. It has a cheap, but hard to find lock/handle. I was able to find it here: SWISCO.com [customersupport@swisco.com]. Might be worth checking.

In the mean time, can you give us the lock manufacturer or model # and a pic? We can help you look.

Will be heading out to the boat tomorrow to remove lock from the door so we can take some good pics. Will post them as soon as I get them.

Found the lock through Taylor made - In case anyone would have the same problem in the future the part number is 5100300 and its and adams rite lock. Was unable to buy directly from adams rite. Unfortunately the lock ran us $370. But after getting locked on the boat seemed to be a small price to pay.

Don't you have an escape hatch forward?
