Floored me 6.3 is rediculously nasty. Looking at the buildings is a reality check on the power of an earthquake. NZ does not have Haiti building standards but that quake was so nasty the result looks the same. I hope things turn out better than it looks for those folks. I have been through hurricanes and I would do a few more if I never had to deal with an earthquake.
Hi, As unbelievable as it seems there was a documentary made back in 1996 that warned about this very scenario. Very Scary Watching that video makes me think that Christ Church should have had building codes that make San Francisco codes look weak. I wonder if the 6.3 just experienced has caused enough underground changes to make the 4 other faults that much closer to a quake. Just yesterday I told my wife it must be because NZ is not a third world country that the media here seems to have mostly forgotten the quake and its damage already. I hope that people somehow survive all of this. No matter the finances buildings can be rebuilt but the lives are a one shot deal. There are just so many factors going on with the soft soil, the multiple faults, the 60 year old standards, and of course the human condition to shrug and say it won't be that bad.

Hey was very crazy to see that on th new earlier this day. Now that i'm in new zealand i hoped that those serious earthquakes don't come around so often but even as i'm still in the northland, ithink there is more to come so my way down there will be a lot less fast then i thought. A friend said he wanted to go to queenstoen the next days but not without visiting christchurh. Now he has to rethink his plan...
Hi, Now you are in Northland I guess the only vibrations you will feel will be the haka being performed by the locals. I hope you have a good time down there even though winter is well on the way.
yeaahhh that vibrations are very commom here yeah, except that everyone around me is getting a cold, the winter is really on its way. the nights are around 4-9°C but the days with sun are around 18°C guess you're in the northern hemisphere?
