Wally simply keeps you interested. They are an innovative company and seeks to break the contemporary molds of yacht design. For some, this departure in styling and creative functionality took some getting used to, however, many of these people convert to Wally fans. Wally has an interesting number of yachts under construction, and the Wally 131 is just as interesting.

Measuring at a length of 39.90M, this Wally is not the largest of sailyachts on the market. This reality is not made to discourage but to engage the mind in what a small design can do. Indeed, this 131 footer is a kind of sailyacht known as the fast cruising sloop. She is to have a beam of 25.11 feet and a maximum draft of near 20 feet (19.8 feet).

Being constructed from pre-pregnated carbon composite ensures a strong but more importantly, a light vessel, the Wally 40M will boast a displacement of only 84 tons with a 25 ton hydrodynamic bulb. This yacht is under construction by Wally at the Wally Europe facility and was designed by Javier Soto Acebal. The interior has been designed by Foster And Partners/Wally.

Accommodations for the 40M show a similar plan to the Wally 148. 8 guests and 6 crew will eventually call her home. The breakdown in accommodation is as follows: The Owner- this room features a separate head and shower. Two guest cabins are to each possess two beds, ensuite head and showers. A family cabin has been devised and features, 2 beds as well as ensuite head and shower. The crew finishes off the rest of the accommodation plan. The Captain's Cabin is to have 2 beds as well with a separate head and shower. Two other crew cabins, to sleep 2 in each on 2 double beds. Both have separate heads and showers.

On the outside, the presence of carbon construction is more prevalent. The mast and boom are to be of this material. The mainsail might most likely be automatically hoisted such as on Y3K and there will be a furling jib as expected. The total sail area is expected to be in the region of 7,831 sq. ft. However, when the wind decides to change its mind, there is an engine that can help in motoring. This engine is slated to be a MAN D 0836 LE 401 EDS 450 Brake Horse Power @ 2,600 RPM’s. This engine will supply power to give a motoring speed of 12 knots.

Well the above rendering was the original design for the 130-foot sloop by Wally. However, the final product has change a bit especially with the deck features. As we all know the Wally 130 has been launched and has recently successfully completed her sea trials and she should soon be delivered to her owners. She is to be on show at the upcoming 2009 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS).
