Thanksgiving Charter?

    A friend is looking for a family Thanksgiving charter in Fort Lauderdale. Half day ICW cruise for 20 including 7 children ages 5 to 14. It is a 50th anniversary event for family of professional people.

    Catering is optional as charterer is prepared to bring food and drink.

    Date is a bit flexible, Thursday through Sunday will work.

    A private yacht cannot legally have 20 persons on board.

    The USCG law states that a chartered vessel can only hold 12 guests and a charterer on board, not counting crew.

    You will have to find a "party" vessel certified to carry your sized group. Something like those large open room boats which are far from luxury vessels.

    Where did the OP state he was looking for a private yacht?

    I under stand the OP is currently still figuring out the PM deal or you might have some entertaining bed time reading.

    OP didn't say he/she wanted a private yacht. I work for a private yacht that charters, so I was just passing information along.

    I know the owner of sunshine boating very well as we do quite a bit of business thru him. Before ASSuming some didn't get the memo, look at the boat on that page... Notice how tall the rails are? That alone is a clue that this trawler is an inspected vessel certify to carry more than 12 pax

    There are a few "private yachts" inspected and certified for more than 12 pax so you don't always have to resort to commercial / party tour boats for large groups. I know sunshine has an inspected 60 something hatteras among the boats he works with.

    I'll hold my tongue and sheath the pointy stick I use to poke idiots but the term "private yacht" is seen nowhere in my original post while the legal term "charter" and "charterer" are.

    There are any number of inspected vessels in the area that legally do day trips and dinner cruises for 20 or more passengers. I was just looking for local knowledge.

    It does appear that a certain member really should have read and understood the rules and regulations before posting.

    All our chartering was through Luxury Yacht Group so not familiar with individual charters that might be available.
