Seperating coupler from shaft

    That whole coupler around the shaft is going to need to get hot. If your pulling the shaft for service, you're going to send the coupler for cleaning up anyway. May as well include the clutch flange and new rear seal. Heck you're there, do it all rite.

    I got into this mess in order to change out my dripless logs! The 10 bolts that attach the flanges are good sized. Will be getting longer ones with a nice heavy plate to try the above suggestions. dsharp, you are exactly correct, my blue tip really couldn't get any good heat distribution. I'll have to wait for another weekend, my day job awaits ....

    Guys, Thank you enormously for your advice. I made up a steel plate to match the coupler flange, welded a "plug" to the center that extended thru the shaft nut to the back of the shaft. Bolted her up, cranked on the nuts and bam! the couplers are off. Bathed in penetrating oil, no heat, and a few raps with the hammer. I'll leave my 10 ton porta pump home next time! Thanks again. Wouldn't think about doing this kind of repair in the water...

    Good to hear you do it all apart. Sometimes it's the way you do it, not necessarily the force in which you do it.....
