Seattle to Bremerton ferry is also a nice one to take. Bremerton has the Navy's moth ball fleet which you can take a tour of a Destroyer and see I believe 4 flattops. If you like to look at big old boats.

I heard that those positions have been filled.
    Just down to these 2.

    - executive chef
    - 3 bilingual bodyguards (for Canadian leg of the tour)

Given the number of spammers I've banned from YF, a bodyguard might be a good idea!

    I don't doubt it :D

Also, since your going to be in Portland, I would highly recommend going a bit west to Cannon Beach for the day/night, and then taking the 101 north.

This is a magical place and will stay with you forever, one of those must see places when traveling the coast.

I remember being in a podunk Japanese 3 miles west of the middle of nowhere and we didnt run into anyone who couldnt speak english...I think he will be okay in southern Canada:D

Although someone in my family did try to pay for our Canadian dinner in USD and didnt quite understand why the waitress was clueless for a moment...

Be warned if you do wind up driving through Bremerton. Whoever designed the 16 to the 3 interchange forgot their safety training. That highway goes from high speed open roads to a hairpin turn with cross traffic....minivan massacre!

Northcoast is still operating in Tacoma. They have a 125 nearing completion. Norstar, I believe moved to China.

Nordlund recently launched an 82 that is probably still undergoing trials, and they have a 115 on hold, looking for a new buyer.

How recently? Are you thinking of the 78' that was delivered last year? I think the two boats they have in their yard now are both over 100' and I havent heard of an 82' Nordlund

The 82 was launched in March. The 115 is the only boat in the shop currently. And I'm positive.

    Palmer,
Sorry for questioning your post, for some reason I was thinking that the boat you were talking about being launched was larger. Please forgive my cocky attitude and my brain fart:D I guess Carl has one less thing to see on his list now if that yacht has been launched unless it is at the Nordlund dock.

    Dan

Oh, and it looks like I have caused a little off topic conversation, so to try to fix that...

    Carl,
Have we all given you enough information to fill up all of your down time in the NW?

    Sorry for the double post.

Screw the ferry, hop Kenmore Air, fly out of Lake Union in downtown Seattle, cruise it up to Orcas Island, tour the little town for the day.

Maybe hit Woodinville for Chateau Ste. Michelle and Redhook Brewery.

If you are driving, I would cruise I-5 and hit Chuckanut Drive just South of Bellingham, great scenic drive along the twisty coastline. Rent some sticks at Whistler, I was there 2 weeks ago, skied in the morning, layed by the pool in the afternoon.

Ballard is a rich with fishing heritage (my home town), Fremont is a nice local hotspot for the gypsy hippies, Lake Union is ALL boating my friend. Hit Palisades Restaurant @ Elliott Bay Marina, I'll buy you a beer.

I recommend Canlis if you want to drop the coin on a night that there is a Duck-Dodge (local sailboat race), very entertaining. Like previously stated, McCormicks on Lake Union, KILLER Happy Hour!!!! and Crows Nest is right there also (Viking Dealer).

Look for 'Archimedes' the 215' iirc on Lake Union, should still be there right next to 'Daedalus' which is the Boeing boat which is around 150'??.

Nothing big at our marina right now, swing by Salmon Bay Marine Center, the Stabberts usually have some nice boats there.

    Drop me an email.

Having just finished an aggravating roadtrip across the Plain States, I'm adding in some information that will help you avoid some serious detours:

The Hood Canal Bridge is closed for repairs until at least the first week of June. So if you plan on going to Port Townsend or Port Angeles before the bridge reopens, you need to either reroute or get round trip reservations on either the Keystone/Pt.Townsend ferry or the temporary Edmonds/Pt.Townsend ferry.

The bad news is that reservation can only be made a week in advance. The good news is that either option gets you a ride on one of our ferries. :) See the WADOT homepage for links.

    Hi, Carl.
So ... are you planning to tour any yards in the next few months?

    Hi Arnie,

I'm planning to visit a couple of yards this summer, but right now I'm just trying to get through the end of this month. I'm in the middle of moving (packing boxes as I type) and have to work the Palm Beach show next week, followed by two sea trials after the show. Come April, I'm hoping to do as little as possible.

Early April is possibly the best time for Vancouver. where else can you ski, go boating, and golf all on the same day? We also have decent night life with an excellent mix of restaurants, fine dining to awesome fast food family type places. Best city on the planet spring/summer!
