    I don't know that I would put a Bravo XR behind a Yanmar 370/440/480 even with a gearbox. Too much torque.

    Yes, but I think it is a two-speed gearbox and the boats are not that heavy, otherwise I know there is on the limit with these engines...

    Weight is definitely a factor in drive life. A friend of mine built a 900hp motor and put it in a 23' cat with a Bravo1. He told me it's been running for three years without failure. :eek:

    My boat is 24' and weighs 2400lbs dry, up to 3200lbs with 110gal fuel. It has a 600hp motor and the old style Bravo1. I do NOT do any holeshots. So far so good, but I wish I had a stronger drive.

    My boat/trailer weighs 5000lbs and I pull it with a 1 ton Dodge diesel pickup. I believe in overbuilding for strength. That way machinery lives longer.

    Here's a fine old tender - a 1953 Chris-Craft outfitted as a Venetian water taxi.
    Don't be fooled by the age however, she's got gold-plated fittings and was completely restored. Asking price: $650K :p

    One tender of Lady Lola's shadow (a blue racing cat, powered by engines not by sails) were a good tender as well. I want to post a photo of this thing, but the website www.ladylolaandshadow.com has been removed :mad:
    They had wonderful photos.

    Lady Lola's offshore cat was an Eliminator. Which conjures the thought... even if you have the most toys... it doesn't count... unless they are the right toys. ;)

    I've wondered about that particular tender myself actually... it looks more like a transport for stock and supplies than for people. I much prefer the "standard" WallyTender design, especially with the overnight option... a small onboard bathroom with shower, sink, and head... as well as a double berth cabin. Too cool!
