Medallion Viper II Malibu Command Center won the IBEX Innovation Award for the OEM Electronics category. This dual touch screen electronics wizard was displayed on the Malibu boat as seen in the video below, but it is applicable to any manufacturer’s customization. I’ll spare the unique technical applications as to sizing, wiring, and technoyawns to those interested in researching further. One important aspect of the innards is that the user interface is seamlessly shared between the two displays controlled by a single computer. Another is the panoramic display that allows for installation positioning that reduces driver distraction by having the display and function immediately accessible. The impressive trigger points for me were not just the cool look of the dual touch screen compactly designed, but the ease of use with the depth of information available plus being fully remote capable. This is NOT just a monitoring screen but actually runs the pumps and other mechanical parts. Additionally, there are training videos at a touch of a screen. Forgot how to dock? Rules of the road? Safety issues? I can see newbies sitting at anchor with a beer in hand and getting a refresher course on boat handling. And the remote control capability is pretty phenomenal. The LVDS (low voltage differential signaling) negates the need for bulky wire harnesses and allows for control of stereo functionality and other features of the display. Of course I asked if there was manual override and Medallion has not overlooked any detail.
