Have you watched the docking abilities of the average 30' owner? I've watched many smack their neighbor even with pilings between them.

BTW, a 6/7% increase in profits, and all they have to do is inconvenience their customers, makes most business owners drool these days. The only thing I see as possibly stopping med-more from coming is if the CG or Corps or Engineers objects to the blocking of the waterways.

I said it's impractical for 30' owners. They dock by feel sometimes.

And it's not a 6-7% profit advantage. I think you can charge that much more for stern with finger pier. As a business owner if my choices are sneak in one extra space with med mooring or have finger piers and charge slightly more, then I take the finger piers. Same revenue. Same profit. Only negative is one less customer for other services at your facility.

not to mention your neighbors (on 2 sides / 8 guests apiece) flushing the toilets 24 hrs a day

Since it's illegal to discharge sewage in any inland waters in the United States (and many other countries), this shouldn't be an issue in any marina.

That doesn't mean that odors don''t escape. I've been stunk out by more than a few septic vents.

While it may be illegal to discharge sewage the whole Type approved MSD regulations are an understated mess. Between the USCG and IMO the approval of Chlorination and dilution by water process is profoundly flawed. Unless its a Zero discharge area than the thousands of vessels running Hamann or Head Hunter systems are dumping / dosing the reefs of the Bahamas and Caribbean with sodium hyper chloride AND macerated (diluted) raw sewage that still looks and smells as you would expect. Kind of makes you wonder what's worse, turn the chlorine dosing pump off and the small fish come around. Chlorine pump on and its a desert. There's only been a couple of real treatment systems with zero discharge and they had scalability issues for anything other than large ships. I know the Fire Fly system is becoming smaller and will fit on large yachts & the Canadian company Hamworthy has a good system but is still to large for anything below 60 meters. Unfortunately, very few of the larger yachts at Bahia Mar or Pier 66 use the pump out facility's because they have these "Approved systems"

Oops! was just told that Hamworthy isn't a Canadian owned company anymore since Wartsila acquired them so now they're an Indian company out of Bangalore!! India's doing pretty well with Jaguar Automobile (Tata Motors) & now their manufacturing excellent medium speed diesels and MSD's AND out sourced tech support & customer service amongst thousands of other things! go figure...

i'd be willing to bet at least 50% of the stuff put in a marine toilet on an un -inspected vessel goes into the water with very little, if any, treatment.......

And you would win that bet hands down and then some. MSD's are a joke and not much of a "dirty little secret " in the industry.
I just wonder how much lobbying and $$ it takes the IMO to approve a system? Ask any mega yacht engineer their opinion on this subject and you wont get to many different answers as to the validity of Chlorination and dilution. We need a new thread cause we're way off topic here. Now back to stern too mooring and those funny articulating planks that hydraulically deploy from the blunt ends of shiny yachts.

gettin' back on topic.....when you are rafted and the other boats that are your next door neighbor do something unpleasant, ( party all nite, running the gen., bright lites, and even the toilet issue), you just can't pull out and back into a nicer neighbor hood..
