Oh so very true. As a true Independent, you can't imagine how it pains me to defend either party. My philosophy has always been, if you want to turn an honest man into a crook, elect him. And it doesn't matter which side they're on. BTW, Carter is and was a wonderful, kind hearted, philanthropic person. But I also lived through his economy (13 3/4% APR on my first mortgage). I'm a firm believer that re-electing a president should be a very unusual occurrence reserved for only the very best. It's been a long time since I've seen anyone who qualified from either party. As for Obama being a lame duck, I think it's great. He got a few good things through while he could. Now not much will get accomplished. Given politics, the best we can hope for is that politicians will be kept from doing harm.

    May be a solution

"more money went into the local economy--repairs, hotel rooms, meals, parts, hookers (kidding!)"

Maybe if the states taxed hookers and their (ahem) clients, homeowners and boat owners could get a break.

    I dunno

Did not see any way to edit my one bite of the political apple in this thread, so appologies if I offend anyone with another bite.

Okay, time to grab the crayons.

It was mentioned that W's eight years were majoritied by the Repubs.

The Dems were running the show (how could anyone forget Nancy P so soon?) the last two (2) years of W's second term.

Hence, the term Lame Duck. This is in reference to W's second tern; not a reference to an anti-war, community activist's inability to be a leader.

Nancy P needed two attempts to get TARP 1 passed.

    Why?

Because she bashed W just prior to the first vote and lost the few needed Repubs (some Dems were afraid of being unseated if they voted for TARP 1, hence the need for some Repubs) for passage.

After some damage control, and keeping her mouth shut long enough for a vote on the second attempt, TARP 1 passed.

Thank Nancy and her fellow Dems; not the Repubs for the bailouts.

Again, sorry if I offended with a second bite of the political apple; but I thought it best to grab the crayons to make my thought more clear.

Hey, I'm trying my best; although, there are those who say I'm very trying! ;)

I always thought that Governments were supposed to provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment for business to operate in and for the employees to feel safe and secure within their residences.

Seems today Government wants to expand into everyones life, take your hard earned dollars and supposedly make your life more enriched, who are these people magicians ?? because it appears more and more they actually squander your dollars and give you serious debt problems, yet, for some reason they cannot see that or admit to it...

It's time their feet were really held to the fire.

Can tell you're from Vancouver, one of the safest, most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Care to tell us where exactly that government you described exists? Don't think it's Libya or China:rolleyes: . The U.S., Canada, Australia, and a few European countries make a fair effort, but power corrupts and.......

As usual, you persist in reading into posts, information that is not implied. Nowhere have I indicated that such a Government existed.

So then you want to hold someone's feet to a fire for not doing what you know that nobody does. Sounds like an exercise in frustration.

And King Obama is fiscally responsible? Get real. Look at what he has spent from the beginning of his term. What has the debt done since he took office? It is outrageous.

Republicans only just got a say. what was going on for the last two years. Try to remember both sides.

Good sign Dave. Unfortunately no effect.

What he has done? Despite dealing with an obstructionist GOP & Tea Party he has pushed through healthcare reform, banking reforms, gotten the economy moving (albeit slowly) in the right decision (Notice that unemployment claims are shrinking finally, and the stock market is up from 6K and falling to over 12K and climbing?), gotten a good number of our troops out of a war that we had no business being in (and that Cheney said they'd set up in a way that we'd be stuck in it for the next 100 years), and countered a few other debacles created over the previous 8 years. Oh, and have you noticed that the world is starting to like Americans againmore since we've stopped treating them like we allowed them into our world. You see, a "king" is someone who says they don't care what the world thinks, such as what Bush did before the U.N. Not bad in 2 years considering the damage that was done during the previous 8, especially that his opposition refused to even take part in the constitutional process.
So "Heck of a job Brownie" and "Mission accomlished". And let's not forget "Read my lips, no new taxes". ROFLMAO

Everything Obama has done, has stifled the economy. If Obamacare is so good, why are 742 companies and Unions (yeah half are unions) which so happen to be the companies and unions that send him election dollars, as well as 2 states exempted from paying into it, by Obama? Socialized healthcare does not work, look at Canada, The UK, and Australia. There is a reason the US had the #1 healthcare system and the premier of Canada came to the US for his operation. Why are 26 States sueing the government over Obamacare being unconstitutional???? Why was a 1200 page bill snuck in under the rug within 48 hours, that 65% of the citizens of the country NEVER wanted? He has created the largest divide in this country since the cival war.

Unemployment claims are shrinking because so many people have been unemployed for so long, that they are no longer eligable to apply for unemployment so they have fallen off of the grid. Real Unemployment and Underemployment is as high or higher then it ever was.

Obama has spent less time in the White House, than ANY president in history. He has spent more time out of the country than any president in history. All of that costs money, and he should be spending more time here, doing his job.

The debt has increased exponentially, that our grandkids will still be dealing with it. They have increased the money supply so much, that inflation is high and very real right now. Look at consumable goods that the normal folks buy, gasoline, groceries, clothing, electricity.

Obama stole General Motors from all of the shareholders (most citizens of the US and elderly) whose shares became worthless overnight, then handed the entire company to the Unions who bankrupted it in the first place. Why, because they gave him a healthy campaign donation.

    Try reading un-biased news.

It's a shame that Canada's prime minister had to come to the US for quality health services. His sacrifice is appreciated by his citizens who were priced out of recieving any healthcare at all, and certainly couldn't afford to availe themselves of the US healthcare system, same as most U.S. residents can't. The stockholders in GM were about to lose their entire investments because GM was about to close it's doors. Now they're operating in the black. The 26 states that are trying to sue Obama's healthcare program is nothing but sour grapes from a party who didn't like the way the democratic process worked out. They weren't used to not being in total control. You can sue a ham sandwich. Let's hear from you when the suits run their course. As for that 65%, are you referring to the majority that voted Obama into office on his promise of healthcare reform? That debt that our grandkids will be paying off was created during the 8 years Bush and the GOP had total control of our nation, most of it spent on his personal vendetta against Sadam Hussain. And what "Unbiased news are you referring to, Fox or the RNC newsletter? You're talking about a party who would promote Sarah Palin for VP and now for president. This is a woman whose total government experience comes from being mayor of a richie rich one horse town, managed to get ellected govenor of Alaska and quit. Please.
There is a reason that religion and politics are not discussed at the dinner table or yacht forums. That's because some opinions will never change. They are driven by self-interest. I won't allow rediculous, untrue statements to stand. So I'm waiting for the admins to shut this thread as they are being used as a political tool in this hijacked thread.
BTW, the same thing is going on at some other boating forums. This is not a singular hijack.

Obstructionist is a word from the Democrat's talking points. It's part of the never ending partisan political hype that the Dems are so fond of. Look at the POTUS. He has never stopped campaigning. Take what they ram down your throat. Don't like it? You are an obstructionist. What does that make the Democrat Legislators in Wisconsin and Indiana?

Every doctor I have spoken to has told me that Obamacare is the end of quality health care. Period. No exceptions. And that's aside from the fact that it's actually the largest tax bill in the history of this country.

And exactly where in the world have they started liking Americans again? They hate us. We have more than they do. Although you might be on to something there because Obama is certainly trying to change that.

Community organisers don't solve problems. They create them. They rile people up. Make noise. And expect their opponents to give in to their demands. Sounds kind of like the health care debate doesn't it?

You obviously do not know what went on with GM. The shareholders of the company were shafted by Obama, the assets of GM went to the Unions recieving ownership of GM, the common shares were made worthless (screwing all of the shareholders/owners of the company). The prior common shares became worthless, GM under union ownership then issued new shares for the new company, which people then bought. It is thriving because they sunk all of their liabilities with the former shareholders causing millions of US citizens to lose their entire investment in GM.

If a majority of States 26/50 are against the healthcare, then constitutionally the people of the United States of America do not want the Obamacare and it was unconstutionally passed and should not exist. Americans are required to purchase healthcare or face a fine by 2012 (I believe), there is no change, you still have to buy healthcare, yet it now costs more for everyone. It's unconstitutional to force a citizen to buy something or face a fine.

As for the debt of the government, it has increased exponentially since Obama was elected. It was 11 Trillion at Jan 1, 2009 when Bush got out of office including the war, and is 15 Trillion right now in less than a year and a half
