Hello there! I have a question about using generator and air conditioning system while cruising (planing). I have Azimut 43fly (2009), with Kohler 9kw generator. Generator water intake: http://shrani.si/f/b/117/4VKCqMT9/1/g0011803-copy.jpg Generator air and water exhaust... http://shrani.si/f/1M/Im/1r2DTwHv/1/g0011778-copy.jpg AC water intake http://shrani.si/f/b/117/4VKCqMT9/1/g0011803-copy.jpg Can I use them while planing, or is there a chance of damaging the sistem?
Correct picture of generator water intake http://shrani.si/f/42/12F/45Odt0zC/1/g0011781-copy.jpg My bad, sorry!
Of course you can ... The only possibly issue with the AC would be if they located the intake too far forward causing it to suck air. If that happen it will shut down without damage If anything it s better to run the genset underway as the exhaust back pressure will always force water out of the exhaust system. Ideally the genset water intake should not be a scoop type although so have relief holes on the back side. A few months ago one of our genset ingested water because these holes were clogged with barnacles and I was running on plane running the other genset. Caught it right away, no harm done but I have instructed our diver to check the holes monthly
Yes, you should have no issues using the generator and a/c on that boat on plane and it's better to use them and to keep the generator loaded when you run it.
