I was skeptical about replacing my manifolds when changing out my risers, because I thought, "anti freeze is non corrosive, so why should I piss away the money."

That changed my mind when I pulled one off and found that water seeped into the exhaust port exposed to the engine valve. (See Pictures of pulled manifold). Now if I would have let this go, I may as well lost my port engine from corrosion or hydrolock.

The moral to this story/ lesson, is to change your FWC manifolds once a decade, EVEN though they are fresh water cooled. I hope that this was useful for you.

Was there a rust/water trail from where the riser bolts on?

No, didn't see any residual signs of rust trails.

Your pictures represent what I usually see when the riser / manifold gasket is leaking.
You are correct, any exhaust should be closely examined often. 10 years later is a good even for a FWC log. It may have gone longer but why take any risk. It gave 10 years of good service. RIP
