  1. Dubois Naval Architects Unveil 58-meter Sloop at 2014 Monaco Yacht Show

World-renowned design firm Dubois Naval Architects debuted one of its latest designs on the first day of the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS). The new yacht has an LOA of 58-meters and is to be built by Royal Huisman with delivery slated for Spring of 2017. Keel-laying is expected to occur in a couple months, in January of 2015. Extensive tank testing is anticipated to start this month at the Wolfson Unit in Southampton using a 20-foot scale model. “The owner is a highly experienced yachtsman and offshore racing sailor,” says Ed Dubois. “He wanted a high-performance, go-anywhere cruising yacht that not only looks excitingly different, but is also beautifully built and luxuriously comfortable.” This new project will be fitted with a tall 71-meter mast to be made by Rondal and it will be carrying an impressive mainsail. It will have a square-top mainsail, something you normally do not see on super sailing yachts. Remember the owner said he wants high-performance and so they are trying to gain as much power from the top of the mast.

The interior of this Dubois project is being done by Rick Baker and Paul Morgan. The eclectic yet relaxing accommodations comprises a master 'apartment' that includes a gym, sauna and study-library as well two guest staterooms and large open main deck salon with appendaged outdoor seating. Details are a key on this project even down to the colour chosen for the seams between the teak planking. Wide teak planks will be used with off-white seams rather than the usual black seams seen on most superyachts. Cast your minds back, to the "Twizzle" she has off-white seams between her oak planks. The foredeck also hides her main crane that is to service the tender garage. There is also a large swimming spa forward. Located aft, in the transom, a sunpadded region is integrated with large full-width steps to the water. Look out for this Dubois project being completed in early 2017.
