Deck Davit

    Hey Posties
    We are thinking of installing a MarQuipt 1500 deck davit on the foredeck, starboard side of our 1998 50'. I'm thinking the mounting post could be installed in the master closet? Anyone have experience with this?

    For what it's worth they all seem to be on the port side of the 50' Posts that I see.

    Beau, that is where mine is mounted. The mounting post runs through the left side of the master closet into a base. I bought the boat that way so can't comment on the material of the base construction. I've attached a pic where mine is located on the deck. The davit is a MarQuipt 1500 as well. Not sure if that helps...

    Big help, thanks Guys. Based upon my interior configuration, the starboard side looks like the more rational side to place it since the stand pipe can be fully disguised in the full length closet. RER, I think the set up you show would have the stand pipe going thru the top of a half closet in my double bunk stateroom and be exposed from the midpoint up? Ruby, I'll give you a shout, my son probably will be doing the purchase and install at his place. I think I may go with the 1000 - we have a 12' Nautica with a 20 hp Honda- does that make sense?? Don't know the cost differential.

    I'd go bigger as you might upgrade to a heavier tender. The 2001 50' Post I ran also had the davit mounted on the port side like in the picture. It had a 13' tender with a 40hp

    Hello Ruby,
    I saw a post you made on the davit deck thread and wondered if you or anyone has upgraded to a 1000lb davit from the old Nautical Structures 600lb davit on the 46's? That's the project I would like to get done soon.

    JRP Do you notice any significant difference in handling between having the dinghy on or off the bow?

    I ran a 2001 50' Post that had both a Nautical structures 1000lb davit on the port side, it had 2 fiberglass dock boxes up there, and it also had a 13' RIB with center console/steering etc and 40hp 4 stroke Yamaha on it. It rode ok with everything up there, but was a little on the wet side. I would transfer fuel from the fwd tank and keep the aft tank full. Once I got the fwd tank to 1/2 and aft tank full, it rode pretty dry and still cruised at 26 knots at 1950 rpms. It had Man 820's in it. It's been a while, but I believe I could valve both engines to either tank on that boat. It was stable with everything up there.

    Beau - I cannot tell the difference with the dinghy on/off the bow. The picture I showed previously had a 11ft Novurania with a 25hp Yamaha, since then I've upgraded to a 13ft AB with a 60HP Yamaha. I frankly can't tell the difference.

    There is what looks to be a 50' Post sf called "off duty". It has the davit on the starboard side and about a 13' rib on it.

    Thanks JRP. I have a 12 ft Nautica with a 20 Honda. So it sound like it would be fine.

    Hmm... whats the backing like on the floor of the closet?? Is it just screwed into the fiberglass, or is there more to it? There was a Marquipt on eBay a while back. New, looked like a holdover...

    I have a Post 56'. I replaced my tender 15' 40 hp yahmi with a 16' flats boat. All tricked out. My Davit is a Marquist 1000 . Carlos , a tech at Marquist is very knowledgable. I like my installation better then the clothes closet. Mine comes threw closet in head on stbr side. Pump and everything is there and still have two shelves for towels. 1000lb Davits are tested for 1600lb ( at least mine was). I'd send pics but not sure how to post them

    I purchased the boat with the davit already installed. The white material is a solid block of some material that feels like it has the density of concrete. My guess is that the mounting post is secured deep into this block of material. It's been on the boat for 10 years and does not appear to be compromised in any way.
