Not for the faint of heart but maybe something for a SE Asian yard to work on:

http://tinyurl.com/2337ecz They have a Harrier as well, it might make a nice bow ornament.

Wouldn't that be the ultimate Yacht Escort? Land a private jet, not just a helicopter.

    Hi,

If the sale conditions are anything like the Ark Royal will be the use as an Aircraft Carrier will not be permitted.

The Terms and Conditions state that you can't use it as a "warship", but they don't say you can't use it as a recreational aircraft carrier. I quote:

Prospective purchasers who intend to refurbish and re-use the vessel for non-warlike
purposes must provide a detailed plan of their intentions, including information on where they
intend to perform such activity, the refurbishment facilities and ultimate destination of the
vessel. Included within such a plan should be the provisions for eventual disposal that fully
meet the criteria set out in HMG Ship Recycling Process together with proposals to offer
surety in the longer term. This vessel is not to be re-used as a warship.

I'm thinking of submitting a bid. I need to make some phone calls.

No problem. The Harrier I mentioned is a non-flyer. I just figured it would make a nice centerpiece for that deck area forward of the island. Not to mention that repowering would be a problem unless you have good friends in Alang.

The two dozen words extracted from the "fine print" might be the catalyst to really rip your nightie when you actually get into it.

There are a few old USN Ships that were towed to the UK for recycling about 5 yrs ago or so, they are still there in one piece owing to the tree huggers and greenies jumping up and down abut the whole process.

Come on guys, this one is far more interesting as a conversion project. Think interior volume and parking space...
