    Jessica / Adix

One of my favorite big sailboats is Adix (even not a Royal Huisman :)). A 1984 Astilleros de Mallorca build, 213 ft triple masted Schooner. My father and I were invited on her once, when she still cruised under her name Jessica. At that time, she was owned by the Buenos Aires based Ship broker Carlos Perdomo. One of those great personalities, which are getting rare nowadays. Business man, african big game hunter, hedonist, the old fashion gentleman and owner of a beautifull boat. Jessica got sold in the late eighties and renamed ADIX. After the modification of her underwater body and intensive refit at Pendennis in 1991, Adix has some great sailing performance and dramatic appearance, when on full speed.

I´m not one to "lecture" others - but I want, sort of, defend the first owner of Adele.
In 1988 his first commissioned yacht was launched in Sweden, the 80-ft
"Swedish Caprice" and he sailed her for 15 years all around the globe.
A wonderful designed, by Peter Norlin, yacht that still catches the eye for her traditional and, in the same time, contemporary style.
    A cutter-rigged beauty!

When Adele was to be delivered, in 2004, he had Caprice on the market and a friend if mine managed to close a deal.
I have been lucky enough to be part of the crew for some time now.

Not long ago, the first owner came aboard Caprice, at that time located in Stockholm, and he was almost tear-eyed when entering the deck!
    People have feelings!
    Even owners!

But there is still nothing wrong with the statement about purpose build beautiful boats like Adele. There are many more examples like this. I do not want to blame the owners, I just feel sorry for those boats. They deserve much more attention, because they are masterpieces, both from the technical point and from the design point of view. Being the owner of a larger sailboat myself, I would never sell it, I even hope my heirs will keep her. Just like the family of the first owner of Borkumriff IV, annother masterpiece of shipbuilding from Royal Huisman.

I couldn´t agree more! You´re absolutely right, but there are circumstances...
In the case of Adéle the owners´s plan was to do a circumnavigation and then sell the boat, because his wife got seasick! Pretty hard to take I would say!
Anyway Caprice, his previous boat is a happy ship today.
In this very moment we´re doing a rig-refit on her in Gothenburg.

My family had the same sailboat boat for 55 years but, again, circumstances got in the way and unfortunately we had to sell her some years ago.
    She truly was a family-member.

    How did you find these?
Probably - I would guess from my son´s website....

Anyway - taken October 2010 i Turkey when I charterd Caprice for my 60-th birthday.
Lasse, the owner, and me got friends and I´ve been, sort of, 1-st mate since.

We´re planning for a return to Turkey mid July after the refit.
Do you want to be kept posted?

    Schooner Atlantic

The 2010 Dutch build 185 ft replica of the 1903 American Schooner Atlantic is for sale trough serveral brokers. One more example of a beautiful large sailing boat, worth to be kept for decades. To bad, the original Atlantic was scrapped in 1982.

In 1905 the Schooner Atlantic set a speed record for crossing the atlantic in 12 days and 4 hours. This record was valid for 100 years and was only broken by one of those carbon racing monsters (Mari-Cha IV). Not bad, if you concider, that Atlantic was a 395 ton steel sailing ship with steam engine.

Do not know, whether a (little) 70 ft boat qualifies as a big sailboat. But this at least qualifies as a great looking sailboat, that can make a sailor dream.

The American build Hinckley Southwest 70, a beautiful boat. Regardless, whether its gelcoated or awlgripped :D, great quality.

That is one nice boat I must say.
Classical lines and a nice interior.

Big? The length isn´t the most important factor here.
As it is when other matters...

BTW - S/Y Juliet is still in Stockholm - she´s been here for over 10 days now and yesterday turned around at the dock to make room for another yacht.
Tomorrow I`ll try to take some pics.

It`s not so common to have so prestigious yachts here in town.

    I`ll be back!

Juliet is a 1993 Royal Huisman. 20 years old and still going strong. A typical example where buying quality pays off.

The latest edition of the Pink Gin line, "Pink Gin VI" was launched into the water recently. What caught my eye about this photo is that they painted a shark motif on the bulb section of the keel. That should look interesting when she is sailing in clear water and viewed from above!
