303 waterproofing and strataglass

    Wondering if anyone has ever used the 303 Frabric Guard on their canvas and got overspray on the strataglass? All of my enclousure needs waterproofed, but unfortunately the only complete canvas piece is the bimini, everything else is mainly glass. Trying to figure out how exactly to waterproof these as there is some canvas on all 15-20 pieces and any first hand knowledge would be greatly appreicated.

    I have used Fabric Guard on navy sunbrella fabric with good results. I take the whole enclosure down and scrub, rinse and let it dry. Then waterproof the dry canvas. The "glass" is nowhere near the canvas when I do this.

    In my case, the strataglass is sewn into the canvas so there is no way to seperate them. We had such a cool damp summer here in PA that all my canvas had mold/mildew so we had to hand scrub everything. Most of my windows only have an inch or two around all sides that are actual canvas so that is where re-waterproofing those areas are giving me some trouble.

    Tape the straglass with 1" tape where it borders the sunbrella. Get some plastic tarps at Home Depot or Lowe's and tape them to cover the strataglass. I use the Starbrite waterproofing agent and use a 3/8" foam roller on an extension handle (the roller adapter for a shurhold w/d pole works well here). Then use a 1.5-2" chipping brush for edging and stuff like that. It works very well and if you don't put it on heavy it doesn't run.....I prefer 2 lighter coats.

    The paint roller to apply AP 303 is a great idea, Foam or fiber roller?

    You can use a GOOD quality fiber roller, but I prefer the foam as they bleed less fibers and such.

    I've used 303 many times and like the results. In the Isinglass areas I apply it with a rag. Simple.

    The 303 wateproofing seems to cure much better in the summer sun, you may have to re-do this spring for best result.
