    Hey disco,
The Lambo is my taste thanks to an insatiable appetite of a need for speed. But with my girth, I need a bigger berth so would be more suitable in a RR.

I use a tripod for my night pics or distant day pics. Maybe my camera isn't expensive enough :p

Ron, thanks as always for the kind words. I figure if I can take shots like these, anyone can.
Disco is right, you need a good tripod. But also for this show you have to go out late so the docks aren't rocking around.
Expensive cameras may help, but the real trick is getting to learn how to use the features of the camera for best results. At night, I don't shoot auto but work the aperture and shutter for best results (I even do that during the day depending on light and subject).
None of the shots here have been touched with Photoshop or anything else. I like to have the camera do the work for me.
Glad to see folks are enjoying the pics and seeing at least part of the show.
    More to come...

    Hey Tom,

I only shoot on auto when the light is perfect during the day and well balanced. Other than that I use different settings depending on the lighting conditions. Even with a good tripod, shooting in auto at night could be a disaster with yachts bobbing around at a berth. I agree once you become familar with your different settings and know what they do and the envisioned end-result, your good, sorta. A more expensive DSLR camera would help though.

No I did not work the show, I walked the show on Monday with an owner whose yacht I manage. I ran 1 of the yachts to the show, and then 2 out of the show (1 for a seatrial and then to FLL, the other to FLL), then I ran 3 other ones that were in the pic in the show back from the Grove to Fort Laud/Pompano after all of their seatrials.......

I hope you're thinking of the story that was in The Triton, the publication I work for when not pounding it for YF. It's interesting and fun to find out where names come from or what they mean.

Here's the story under Yacht Names Tell Tales (courtesy of The Triton):

The boats in the Miami show were nothing if not expressive.

While they might look tamely white from a distance, when you get close, their names have something to say.

Take the 96-foot Serenity Now. Complete with a Chinese character (for <<ITAL>>serenity), it also includes an exclamation point at the end. So yes, it is a nod to George’s father of the 1990s sitcom Seinfeld who use to shout the saying, arms raised high. (The name Serenity Now also landed sixth on BoatUS’s 22nd annual list of top 10 boat names.)

Yai Sou (a 104-foot Cheoy Lee) is what the Greeks exclaim when they greet each other (hello, good-bye, and good health). Sounds like a toast you might shout as you lift your ouzo.

No Bada Bees (the 127-footer from IAG Yachts) is the expression that members of the owner’s team uses when they sold cars at his dealership in New York.

Beyond versions of the wife’s name (such as Mustang Sally), many yacht names are in another language.

Ma’atKare, an 85-foot Pacific Mariner, is Egyptian for “my soul is at peace with God.” The owner is an Egypt buff.

Estancia, a 112-foot Westport, is Spanish for ranches. The owner has owned horses in his life, and his girlfriend currently has 50 on two ranches.

Damrak II, a 70-foot Sunreef, is named for Damrak, a street in Amsterdam much like Wall Street in New York City where the owner met his wife.

Vivere, the 116-foot Azimut, is Italian for “to live”, and Far Niente, a 116-foot Hatteras, means “to do nothing,” which is what this owner does when he’s onboard.

Our vote for most unusual name is M/Y Dr. JonLuke and his Lukousaurus, an 87-foot Broward named for JonLuke, the owner’s 8-year-old son, who has an uncanny knowledge of dinosaurs, of which a lukousaurus is one. We’re not sure where the "Dr." fits in.

Here are a couple of extra rides if your main ride doesn't work

Do these inflatables double as fenders in a pinch?

    Another look at DAF

Another cool ride on display. I'll shoehorn myself into it if I have to

Plexi floor on the NISI display yacht. Should be standard in all yachts. Out of sight, out of mind is not good when out to sea.

Hi Tom, Sorry for my mistake... it wasnt on dockwalk, it was on the triton indeed!

Congrats for your work and the pics! (I have been following the triton more and more as of late and been impressed with the quality!)

Really nice work on the nisi! hadnt seen that! That is really something to take away for any size yacht! Wonderful idea and looks neat too!

Was't there a fender between the swim platform and that rusting piling? That looks like danger right there.

As for the anchor, no comment!
