Hello, a possible job relocation to the Nashville/Murfreesboro area is in the works. The office is in Murfreesboro, but we'd be keeping the boat somewhere on the Cumberland River/Old Hickory Lake. Any recommendations on marinas/yacht clubs? How about places to live?

Welcome. We're at Gallatin Marina on Old Hickory, and would recommend w/o hesitation. From the 'boro, heading up 840 to 109 puts you in Gallatin in about 30/45 minutes. On 109 at the river is Cherokee Marina, also nice. In Mt. Juliet, 840/109 then turn left at 70 are Cedar Creek Marina and Cedar Creek Yacht Club. Further away are Black Jack Cove in Lakewood, and Anchor High, Drakes Creek and Creekwood, all in Hendersonville. On the river below Nashville are Rock Harbor and Commodore Yacht Club. All of these are on Navigable waters and have boats up to 115.' Most have dry storage also. we've seen them all, stayed at most, and would recommend them, too.

There is also Percy Priest Lake which is landlocked. Several marinas there, if you dare.

Thank you for the reply! I think we'd end up on the south side of the river/lake, trying to split the difference between the boat and Murfreesboro. Looks like nice housing options in Mt. Juliet; any opinion on Lebanon?

You don't mention in either of your threads if you have a boat, what kind, or what kind of boating you have in mind. That could influence our answers significantly.

Do you like to use daily, on weekends, or more on extended trips?

In Murfreesboro you have other options too if you have a larger boat and like longer cruising. You're less than an hour and a half from the Tennessee River in two different directions. SE to Lake Nickajack and Guntersville Lake, W to Kentucky Lake. Each area has it's advantages.

I'm not a fan of the exurbs, I live in midtown Nashville, but both Lebanon and Mt. Juliet have exploded in the 35 years I've lived here. Each have their share of cookie-cutter housing developments. If you work in the 'boro, Lebanon, which is the bigger of the 2, is closer.

Of course you can travel further. Probably more like 21/2 hours to the better marinas on Kentrucky.

Depends on the type boat and type of boating he enjoys as to what makes sense.

Thanks for the replies and questions. We have a 1968 46' Chris Craft Roamer Riviera. Its important for us to be close to the boat; we spend evenings on her and of course, weekends. We don't do extended cruising so we think we'll enjoy river boating. She's currently on Lake St. Clair in the Detroit area. We are very spoiled living 5 minutes from the boat currently! If I'm reading Google maps right, it looks like Mt. Juliet/Lebanon would have us about 20 minutes from Cedar Creek Marina (depending on where we live of course)?

Makes sense. Mt. Juliet is less than 15 minutes away. Lebanon around 30. However, Mt. Juliet is 40 minutes from Murfreesboro and Lebanon is just a little less. I love living on a lake or close to it but I'd also keep in mind that you drive to work more often than to the lake and in a greater time pressure. You might want to consider living along the I-24 corridor. And while looking at Marina's, Rock Harbor gives you a totally different situation. May not be right for you but wanted to mention it.

I'd avoid I-24 at all costs. You'll find several older Roamers on Old Hickory at the marinas I mentioned. As for river boating, you will find that OH is pretty riverine and upstream from the 109 bridge it is all river. Rock Harbor is my old haunt, but options for cruising are limited if you are a weekender. If it were me, given your situation, I'd concentrate on Cedar Creek, Cherokee, or Gallatin.

Depends on where you get on 24 to get to murfreesboro. You'd be using 840 so would comparatively VERY little traffic as opposed to between say smyrna and nashville on 24. By very little I mean it is doubtful you would ever drop below 75 before you get to mboro.
