Need a little help deciding on the best paint to apply for the best protection from growth. We're dicked year round in fast moving tidal creek in South Carolina. Currently having a diver scrape the bottom and clean props, rutter and trim tabs about every 3 weeks. Short of going to the islands for copper based paints, is there anything on the US market that will at least help? Thanks for any advice!

Definitely need more info. You don't need to go to the islands for copper paint! I have good service with I Paints out of New Jersey. Do a Google search for IPaint.

In any case you'll be keeping your dive service.

Do you have hard paint or ablative paint??? Hard is far more effective than ablative, but if you have ablative, you need to stick with it.

If you have hard paint, I'd go with Interlux Ultra. With ablative, I like Seahawk Cu-kote.

Not necessarily. In the heavy fouling Chesapeake, using IPaint's mid grade copper ablative, I get no appreciable fouling over the course of the season. Provided you run the boat. I use cleaning the bottom as an excuse to take her out at least once a week.

E PAINT is fantastic well worth the extra dollars . Just make sure the temperature is correct and stick to the over coating times

Jotun Sea Quantum Ultra or Hempel Hempaguard X7. Supposed to be good for 90 months on "low-intensity" vessels, which is what most yachts are.

If it's good enough for VLCC's (Very Large Crude Carriers - Tankers) sitting mostly at anchor in the nutrient-rich and warm waters of S'pore, and then only move at 15kts when underway, and the sea-critters don't stick, it's good enough for me. Google it. It's great!!

I just started researching the same thing. At the last boat show I'm came across copper coat looks interesting with its 10year and still going strong theme seams though you have to strip the bottom can't go over old bottom

CopperBot is fine for a boat that keeps on the move, perfect for cruising.

We specialize in fast RIBs and CCs which we will only paint with SeaJet Emperor White or Shogun. It's good up to 70kts, lasts really well in high fouling areas and cleans off better than any other A/F I've used in almost 40 years.

I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I think seahawk makes a good paint for aluminum. Best bottom paint really depends on what area you're in also. Some work really well in one area and not another
