Off Topic: VERY Cool Video... check it out!

Ever wonder what it's like to fly an F-18 Hornet from an aircraft carrier? Here's your e-ticket...

(be sure to crank up your speaker volume for this)

WOW! VERY cool video! Kinda gave me goose bumps as it takes off.
Thanks for letting us in on that one. I'll have to pass it along

I must have watched the catapult launch on this several times now. I can't think of a better song than Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" to go with this video!

Fun!!

LOL What a time killer! I have watched that (mostly the beginning) about 20 times today. Ya think the Navy is interested in training a 40 year old? I want that job

Simply amazing... I've wasted more time on that video today too! Typically, once I've seen something one time... I'm done. It's relegated to memory. But the launch coinciding with the start of Magic Carpet Ride continues to give me chills... or I just simply crack-up laughing.

Ahhh... the simple things in life!

Hey Mike,

We've got a few, but they must be practicing approaches somewhere, you know... like with a girl at a bar stool.

I got my rotor-wing rating back in 1988, but let my medical expire in the mid-90's. Not much use for the ticket anymore. I was partner's in an R-22 for a year, mostly to accumulate time leading up to a turbine rating (and to get insurance!).

I've been right seat with a number of friends on various light-wing stuff. The best so far was a ride with Don Wittington from World Jet in a P-51 Mustang as my 30th birthday present! Unbelievable torque!! If you gave it full throttle at just above stall, it would literally roll the plane inverted. Never forget that ride...

thats cool, i would love to get my rotor wing rating at some point... I have a multi-engine, instrument and i'm planning on going for the commercial rating this summer. As you said, insurance plays a big part in flying. I have been to World Jet a few times but usually go to the Aero Toy Store. The Mustang must have been a blast.. I love going to FXE because there is always something cool flying in. Last time i was down, General Electric had their annual meeting in Boca and they all flew into FXE. All the big iron was there... G-IV's, G-V's, Global Expresses, and not 1 but 2 BBJ's.

I was based on FXE for the better part of 12 years! I had one of Whittington's T- hangars at the northwest perimeter of the airport for 4 years. This is where I kept the R-22 and a couple of raceboats. Later, I had an office/warehouse on the north side of runway 8/26 and immediately east of the aero toy store (1500 Cypress Creek Road, to be exact). From here, I was fortunate to see almost every departure or return for 7 years. And man... that's a lot of aircraft. In those years, FXE was touted as being the busiest exec, airport in the country. I don't know how it compares now. I've been off site for 8 years.

I've still got some some friends on the airport. I might be able to pull a string or two if you need.

Talking That aint nothin'...

..., yesterday's rush hour included a "fly-by" from TWA.
Just had time to snap off this shot.
Made it though.
Passengers had to walk to the terminal at Reagan National however.

As an answer to Carl, it is said that the New Yersey Teterboro is today the busiest executive airport in the USA. And today the picture above became almost a reality when this Executive Jet hit at least one car after a a take-off from Teterboro that went across six lanes of the highway and ended in a warehouse. Could have been ice on the wings they said.

Teterboro is indeed a very busy place. I am based in Morristown, NJ which is about 20 miles away from Teterboro. I'm glad to see that nobody was killed today in that Challenger....now we have to wait and see what the FAA finds out.
Thanks Carl, im usually a transient at FXE, but I will let you know if i ever need a hangar.

Cool Crowded Airports - Flying H2

Things are unlikely to improve as Union Pacific adds this Hummer-style commuter jet to it's inventory. Apparently, corporate execs felt they needed added "presence" at airport taxiways and terminals if they were to meet their busy schedules.
Has anybody run into one of these lately?
