was planning drawing something like this but got challanced
aft hinged whishbone mast rigged with stern spreaders
davids lift a small car in the hull, tender in the other
and how about a glued alu spaceframe with airex

as concept i think "Ca suffit" (as mentioned in another thread)
working on it, other liberal and even wilder ideas in my gallery

I've never seen a sailing yacht with the mast that far aft. But then I haven't seen many wishbone rigs either. Would you happen to have a photo of an existing yacht with similar rig?

(Love the modeling on the Porche BTW)

i like porsches also ( used stockart here ;-)
couldnt quikly find a free small car but fits in 16 x 8 meter boat tho

as for the A rig: no leading edge ( mast ) on mainsail,
jib on furler, can carry 2 sails lateral and much more
( and folds away nicely -maybe in white- on a motorsailor ;-)

Thanks for those links yipster. I had not heard of these aftmasted rigs before. That design by Arno Gaudier is certainly thinking outside the box!

Yipster, as an armchair designer (oh heck, I would even make a mess of an armchair) the only critical concern I would have is the extreme forward location of the wheelhouse. Seems like it would be begging to play submarine in big swell. Otherwise I would say it's a breathtaking concept. An actual build would require a client that is a real risk taker. But those people do exist. It's really great to see such a refreshing design (I'm not buying the "whats new ?" humility).

KCook, thanks for the apriciation and feedback to another armchair designer.
big forward strakes above the wavepiercers give buoancy, keep spray down,
and together with a little setback 3 meter bow in pilothouse should prevent nosediving,
also see incat, together its still a refreshing design you agree right?

Codger, here a quik -not in raytrace- possible dual jib allready covering 150 m2
leaving planty other full 3d sailplans, maybe mast should be little fwd
and dont forget the idea is a liveaboard motor sailer

I saw that some of the sails on the Arno Gaudier design had booms. I think that would make the sail a lot more effective. Though a boom can be a nuisance to deal with.
