  1. Nordhavn 78 - World Traveler With European Style
PAE Announces Plans For 78 Foot Yacht

Following up on their two most recent successes, Pacific Asian Enterprises Inc. have once again expanded their already ample line of trawlers with the the Nordhavn 78 - a long-range passagemaking yacht with contemporary, European styling.

"This design will appeal to a whole faction of clientele who tend not to prefer the traditional expedition-type look of a Nordhavn," says PAE’s vice president, Jim Leishman. "The N78 will evoke a contemporary European feel without losing the dynamic of being a Nordhavn." Translation: This Nordhavn will not only be capable of taking you to distant, undiscovered shores anywhere you might imagine, but it will also be right at home at any upscale marina you want to visit on the way to those far-off places.

Atypical of trawler yachts, but keeping in character with the European influences that Nordhavn wanted this 78 footer to have, Chief Designer Jeff Leishman has placed emphasis on outdoor living, starting with the flybridge. The N78’s flybridge will feature a Jacuzzi, wetbar, barbecue and a large open deck area perfect for entertaining. Meanwhile, the foredeck – a usual lounging area on most European boats – has been designated the ideal outdoor "chilling space."

Like the entire Nordhavn product range (with the exception of their largest vessel, the N120), the N78 was intended to be operated by the owner, without a captain. However, Leishman has designed engine room access in the transom so that employed crew can enter the area without impacting company on board.

Like any good trawler, the Nordhavn 78 will come equipped with two powerplants - in this case twin Cummins QSM11DM-425's producing 425 HP@1800 RPM - have ocean-crossing capabilities with a range of 3000+ miles and superior fuel economy. The interior will feature updated, modern design elements that include luxurious owners’ accommodations spanning the full width of the hull, and two superb guest rooms - one fore, one mid-ships - all with ensuite heads. Crew quarters and off-watch quarters are located aft of the engine room.

Just because the lines of the N78 will have a European flair, that doesn't mean the yacht will not appeal to international or American markets. "The beauty of this design is that it’s a Nordhavn, so you’ve got comfort and confidence while underway, but the benefits will be realized when you’re not passagemaking," notes Nordhavn Europe’s Philip Roach. "The added elements will really allow you to enjoy your time on board once you’ve arrived."

The project is currently underway with the first hull scheduled to complete in early 2011.
