Newbuild: S/S Suri

The 172 foot Shadow support vessel Suri is nearing completion and soon ready to be handed over to the owners. It is reported that Suri will be the shadow vessel to the Hakvoort m/y Jemassa. Suri is being done by fellow member and experienced captain Stan Antrim and his company Y.E.S!(Yacht Escort Ships). You can see one or two genes from the Jemassa proliferating from the Suri's external design.

For example, the forward curving facade on the main deck, the forward slanting slats/supports at the aft of the superstructue on the main deck as well. The colour should be of note as well. Although Jemassa is an all white yacht, she does feature some tan highlights and strips on her exterior. This tan also features on her helicopter. Suri will have this tan hull colour.

The Suri will feature the comforts and toy storage space of past Y.E.S! shadow support vessels. From the helicopter to the varying sized tenders to the interior accomodations, Suri is sure to be a custom support vessel that will tag along when needed.

Thank you, YachtLuver, for the kind ink! I was hoping for Y/E SuRi (yacht escort) versus your clever S/S (do I dare, shadow ship?).

Your astute observation of the common features of SuRi and JeMaSa deserves an amplification. It has been a frequent comment that the profiles of the shadow boats have been less than pleasant. On SuRi we have gone to great lengths in order to camouflage the boxy appearance of a 65 foot long by 32 feet wide and 16 foot high box that serves as the helicopter hangar and garage with the principle landing zone being on top. Fortunately, due to the features that you mentioned, we have been able to add fashion plates that are complimentary to the yacht as well, further enhancing the appearance.

On another note, SuRi represents a true hybrid as she can server not only in support of the yacht, she is a yacht in her own right. The master suite features an ensuite sitting room; the sky lounge has a conference center, theater, office, day head and bar; there are three additional guest suites with ensuite heads; the gym is a full 420 square feet with the massage and steam
rooms adjacent --- all finished to yacht quality standards.

The latest renderings of the next generation 205 foot YES are very exciting as there is no hint of the hangar structure though it surely exists.

Stan the 205, is HoT!!!!!! great design. I see what you mean when you were trying to mask the boxy shapes. It looks really good!!! I am more than impressed.

YES indeed! Very nice improvements over the 1st generation escort designs. The 205 design looks to be nicely integrated. Except for the water level deck at the stern. I understand it does need to be that low and have that much extension. But I would be tempted to play with the styling of it some more. If anything, make its look more bold, not so understated.

Ditto! The 205' strikes a nice balance between the utilitarian aspects of a YES and a luxury yacht. Seems like a new category of yacht has been created... an expedition collides with a hangar and voila... a YBO!

In response to Kelly's very valid observation, the practical reality is that the low aft deck is designed to accommodate a 65 foot sportfish or pleasure yacht launched by dueling (two) 35 ton cranes.

We have had many very significant changes to the original concept, all towards the improvement of the yacht-hybrid-shadow boat. For instance, within the past 30 days it was decided that two separate heads in the master suite is better than one (I am sure you have heard that quote before).

Thank you for the kind comments and interest in our work of which we at YES are very proud. Suri is classed to Bureau Veritas and should head south from Seattle by mid-December. Attached is a sneak preview as we start to uncover her topcoat paint job.

Thanks YES, she looks to be coming along well! This is a big call, but in pic no.2 is that the 205ft y.e.s in the background? Hull looks a bit different but you never know...? I think that having any head in the master suite is nice
