Read the words......

I would venture that a South America to Polynesia transit clearly QUOTE "proved trans-Atlantic capability." UNQUOTE. Nothing was said to indicate Kon Tiki actually crossed the Atlantic but it certainly could, as have hundreds of even smaller craft.

The visual was provided for all those milk-run yachties who don't really know where the Pacific is........;-)

On this forum you had to know it was coming as soon as you hit submit . As for smaller, Back in the 90's a guy came over (Atlantic not Pacific ) on an 8' egg shaped sailboat. Anybody know of anything smaller since?

We had one guy, a Japanese, who had crossed the Atlantic in a 15 footer powered by a Tohatsu 8hp outboard, who turned up at the Yacht Club in Antigua. I think thats the smallest I've seen.

Hi,

If I remember correctly that was a yellow boat, it was behind us at the YC at one stage.

Other then the "Yachts in Gibraltar" thread with pictures from Daniel, I think this is my favorite thread that I have found on YF.

Thank you Stan for sharing your knowledge and advice. And thank you lurker for your intelligent questions back in '06 for Stan to reply to.

As a newbie to the yachting world I found this to be a very informative read.

Cheers,
Dakkan
