To our opinion it is necessary to fetch for a long run 3D equipment models from the internet, to be fast in design and to work without any break from initial design towards production design.

We know it is very hard to find an effective way to distribute 3D-Models and other documents via internet. But we have no give up. Under http://www.archnav.de/linksammlung/links_fs_12.html

you find our solution. There is a list of all equipment suppliers from the shipbuilding industry. To some of them there are related (brochures with 3D-CAD-Models) in .pdf format. There you can download all related 3D-Models and documents.

I spent many years now using 3D for ship or yacht design.. For the most part I prefer Microstation.. & years ago I was using it for all aspects of the Engineering on Yachts.. Then it was call Microstation modeller.. I'm now in a very different position in design but still using the modern version Triforma and Bently structure.. Still very Powerful but I do find it doesn't work any where near as good as Modeller.. So many things are't possible now!!!! Wake up Bently!!!

But!!!! Unigraphics is storming the 3D world right now. Its all you need.. Unfortunately we dont use it where I',m working now but we are looking into finding a new all round package.. Hopefully Unigrafix

For a long run we would like to integrate the equipments into a PLM process, there you need the full control over a very large assembly with names and attributes. Thus seems possible with UG, Catia, ProE, SolidWorks, Inventor but not with Rhino or Microstation or did you have other experience?

Well I would have to say if you were viewing in Microstation Modeller the Feature manager looks very much the same.. you can handle past features and all aspects of the tree as the model is built.. also on screen at the same time all the constraints between the seperate features so I would have to say very much alike... The so called new version 'Triformer is also connected to a data base so EVERYTHING that is modelled has a mass,weight,material value and cost connected to it.. It work very well but like I said b4.. the feature manager seems to have change and constaining features is almost impossible.. Someone here said to me,, ah!!! it cant have change that much, you just forgot how! to do it..So that evening I took them to my house where I still have Modeller.. Showed them the featute manager set up and constraints.. In 25 second I modelled sever parts. You could see the tree growing and in that time constrained all the parts to each other..Its that powerful. I can only hope that a modern Triformer user see this post and can tell me how its changed and why Bentley mucked up something so powerful.. Dont forget,, Modeller is now 7 years old!!!

Hi... Well opening in Microstation is possible editing may be a problem as you stored it as a cel. so if you drop the cel you lose all the attributes. Also.. this was this really modelled in either solid edge unigrafix etc.. So picking it up as a dwg is not the best way to export it to microstation... But would be interesting to see just how good the conversion could be .. I'll pm you my mail account perhaps you can send the original..

Thank you very much for your comment and test. I don't understand your remarks up to now. The .dwg format is only for AutoCAD and the convertion towards Nupas-Cadmatic. For Microstation you should use the Pararolid format .x_t. Because Microstation is Parasolid based like UG, SolidEdge and Solidworks. If you do so is it then possible to view the Feature Tree and the names? Like it is possible in Inventor, Catia, ProE, SolidWorks etc.?

There is an new way to distribute,view and download 3D-Models via the Internet. All you need is the latest Abrobat reader Version 8.1 or for downloading dircet with right mouseclick 3D-PDF 8.1.

Does any of you know where I can find a file in any format to have a modeller create a 3D model of this helicopter? I've looked everything - I think and even asked the factory and dealers.
