Hi Jannick,

Not too bad, remember that it is you who are the designer, not the program

It doesn´t matter if you are designing on a napkin or in Catia or other high end 3D-programs. The beauty of Freehand is that it is intuitive as when you draw by hand, still have the precision of the most expensive programs.

And it goes pretty fast when you have learnt to use it. Must say however that after Freehand version 8, I am not so happy and the latest, MX is really bad...

I don´t know exactly the size of your design, 30-40 feet?

As an example in this size, here is a classic 33-footer with a pretty useful interior. Everything is measured on screen, as you can read out in the bar above while working.

So your next step should be to try getting the interior in and then you can adjust the exterior until it all looks good!

lars: i agree , i tried do design some ships in freeship, but i just can't design the hulls *-.-*

the size: its actually a 40 footer - 12.1m (should be)

i haven't designed a floor plan yet but i will create one and show it up like lars
does it every time

i think it will have 1 volvo penta 177 as engines *g*
for a cruise speed ~18 kn and max speed should be around 25 kn

2 berth and a little bathroom

No, I am making my own "grid", which is mainly a rectangle for each floor. On a size like this I make it about 210 cm high, on yachts from 20 meter the height goes up to 230 cm and above 50 meter it can be 260 cm or more.

This includes the structure for one floor/ceiling on each deck.

but then i need a second volvo penta

i will make some hand-drawings to see if its better a cat or a single hull.

Yes, I think you need twin 280 hp to get 25 knots. Maybe two 310 hp Volvo Penta D6 would be the best package.

The Nimbus boats are all good looking and quite popular here, but like Sunseekers a little over-priced in my opinion...

the only yacht i can afford is a 50cm model of a yacht *g*

i'm designing the yacht as a cat, beam about 6m, should be enough.
the engines will be the 2x 310 hp Volvo Penta D6.
maybe some more cruising speed

to sunseeker: i have a friend who loves sunseeker, his father was checking prices for a manhatten 68 *g* but as i told him, he will need more money for the harbor and fuel, he decided other way *G*

Looks slightly front heavy to me. Especially for a cat. I would be tempted to slide the superstructure aft a little. Even though that would likely not leave room for the big table on the aft cockpit deck.

kelly, you're right, its very front heavy, but i think before i move the superstructure back, i will made the hull a bit longer, because i like the table on the stern. at the stern isn't a cockpit, there should be a fly bridge but i haven't drawn it yet.
maybe i will just slide the fly bridge a bit aft. i will try it the next days

Stretching the bow further forward would certainly be a fix. But at the same time I think I would want to also raise the level of the gunnel/sheerline. At least in the bow. A cat hull design that is too low a profile will be at risk in big waves.
