I know I get great advice here.... I love the site

I know nothing, and ask some stupid questions, and
most are patient and can find ways around everything.

I am learning all the time.

I really don't know what someone would want $$$ to do it nor how or why.
I do realise it a 3 month min trip, If any said other, I would look for Another
I can forget professional transport companies cost would be on par with a good vessel in australia.

As for a captain who is flying a flag at half mast....
we all have our defects.. as long as his last job wasnt on the costa cordia
he may be capable, there are no guarentees with anything these days.

I don't know if anyone would want the owner onboard on a trip like this,
but I would be asking if he wanted a deck hand, and I'd go in a heart beat.

Hi,

What about this one? 28 Northener: Sailing Boats | Boats Online for Sale | Fibreglass | New South Wales (NSW) - Gwandalan, Newcastle Nsw

It is a lot closer to home , of similar size/vintage and already has a relatively modern engine in it.

It will also be yours for a lot less than getting the other one to Australia.

Can you get any farther away?

Let's see, the earth is just under 25K miles in circumference, and a google of columbus OH to Brisbane is near 10K miles... I think of all the boats in the world, you've found one that's in the top 0.1% furthest away from you! I'd suspect there's some sort of strange karma thing going on!

Kiwi made a great point, you can get something in better shape close by for less overall cost. Those I know who have sailed to your area from the Atlantic did it for adventure, and I doubt would do it for any other reason. Given that scenario, I doubt any competent skipper would undertake such an adventure without going over and prepping the vessel in great detail. Preparations and modifications for sustained offshore sailing will cost more than boat itself. I don't know Australia at all, but it looks like you're on the east coast, and this is kind of like going to Perth (west coast) to buy a used car that's a good deal, and hoping someone will drive it back to you.

That said, who can top the proposed 9158 mile transit with a longer one they've done... with details (what, when, why, etc)!?

Has to be external ballast... Pull the rudder, drop the keel and it should fit. A lot cheaper this way!

Couldn't attest to the builder, but watched a very similar boat (except that it was about 35'), in beautiful shape being cut up for scrap last summer because it wasn't worth enouth to cover the yard bill and they couldn't find a buyer at any price. It would take over a week just to get that down to the Gulf or probably 2 to make the S/E coast where you could load it on a ship. Forget going 1/2 way around the world at $400 a day for a decent captain. Also, he won't go alone so +$150 a day for crew, plus food and expenses. Wouldn't think of taking an owner along on that trip. Most place give life for killing a boat's owner and it would surely happen.

P.S. As a cautionary tale, today's news: 1 dead 4 missing off a 38' out of San Francisco: http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/20...-accident?lite

You really have not done the great loop. It's much much longer than a week to get a sailboat from Ohio to the Gulf, and much much longer to get a sailboat to the east coast from there. Probably close to a month.

The Great Loop: my one dream never completed. 1/2 left to do. What you say though bears echos the other posts. If he wants this boat he'd best move here and enjoy sailing here. Buy another boat there if he moves back home.
