Wally Nano, s/y Snowwhite

A design that morphed from the Pilgrim project and resulted in what is known now as the 'Wally Nano.' The 'Nano,' is essentially to be a smaller version of the Pilgrim however, designed with a few 'whitsles and bells' -so to speak- in mind.

Some of these new features are closely related to her small size of only 36 feet. The first is that the Nano will be able to be transported on a container ship on a collapsable type 40 foot container. Secondly, a detatchable rudder and lifting keel will ensure good clearance on these trips. Thirdly, the Nano is of the size and sophistication that allows her to be sailed by one person. These are some of the new features embedded in the Wally Nano.

The Nano, is designed by Hoek Designs in collaboration with Wally's team. She will be built from the latest and most advanced composite materials available presently. Being built presently as we speak Victoire Naval Projects are handling the composite structure of the vessel. This Nano, will represent the first unit of five. The first unit will be called Snowwhite and will also be launched-according to schedule- during Autumn of this year (2007).

I find it very interesting that Wally chooses to make a small "production" yacht out of a design that is a decided departure from their norm, while another company makes a small production yacht whose design is heavily Wally-influenced. (Sly Yachts)

The nano is growing on me though, there's no denying it.
