Based in Annapolis/Eastport MD - they built a grand total of 448 yachts before turning in their woodworking tools circa 1974. Most still live today, testimony to their exalted pedigree and fine lines as they grace a harbor near you.

Here's a 58 foot 1969 yachtfisher (hull #437) for the gentleman owner.

That must be the most modern Trumpy afloat, certainly one of the most pristine I've seen. I was about to say it was probably one of the last yachts they built, then I realized you already informed of the same. Number 437! Duh!

Where in the world wide web have you found all these GREAT classics?? Really glad to have you aboard Eric!!

Spotted on the New River across from Lauderdale Yacht Basin. She needs some work... but what woody doesn't?

Sorry... I didn't get the name, but I never miss a photo-opp for an old Trumpy.

Here are pictures of a super van Craft, a dutch build ship you see quite a lot over here and which are still made.
Not cheap, but one might call these mini Feadships..
Very well build.

The second picture is of a 1994 build.

Certainly one of the first Trumpys, here's "Top Notch" a 1925 converted 75 foot rum runner. Looking mighty fine after only 80 years.

"Top Notch" is indeed a beautiful old yacht, but likely not a Mathis/Trumpy. Doc records indicate builder to be "Vineyard" properly spelled "Vinyard" from Milford Delaware.

The cockpit Trumpy pictured above was at that time "Happy Days V" built 1969/70 since sold and perhaps renamed. The photos above were shot by me at Piney Narrows, MD and in front of the owner's home in Indian Creek Village, Fl. I'm honored to see my photos used here.

I have sold quite a number of Trumpys in my career, and consider myself a reasonable source of limited information. Most recent sales are "Washingtonian" 1939 63' Houseboat and "Vixen II" 1947 54' Cruiser with cockpit, built by Trumpy to fulfill an Annapolis Yacht Yard contract/a Chris Nelson Design.

Sources say one thing, the sales brochure another.
An issue of historical significance, no?

PS - We see her on a regular basis cruising the Potomac; earlier she inspired me to get a boat when I definitely saw Nixon on board in '69 sitting on the banks as a young boy. Go figure!

Lots of confusing links there. Sequoia is a Mathis.

Mathis (Do not confuse with Matthews-where the geocities link takes you) was the builder of the Trumpy designed "Sequoia". Mathis Yacht became Trumpy Yacht, moved from New Jersey to Maryland etc. Did not make the move to fiberglass boats, last yacht launched was 1973.

Matthews built similar custom and stock wooden yachts in Port Clinton Ohio. Began fiberglass construction with the Hargrave designed 46' Hulls, a total of 40 which were built by Halmatic in England to Lloyds specs, shipped to Port Clinton and finished by Matthews. I own Hull #9 of these. They went on to build a 56' Fiberglass in house and had plans for a 65' of which one may have been built. Last launchings were 1974 or perhaps 1975 then that was it.

Good point - no "T" on the bow.

I am in the process of purchasing a Trumpy design 60' called the "Black Tie". The original name is believed to be "Jodara". It was built in 1936 for the Bowman family in San Diego. The boat was also used as a mine sweeper in the early 40's. Any information you guys may have on this boat would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not seeing that boat listed in the Trumpy book, in that year/size/boat name combo. Is it possible to post a photo here or point me to a photo on the web? I have a more recent data file on Trumpy yachts that I can check tomorrow. Post a photo of the subject craft if you can.

Addendum: OK I think I figured this out. The yacht Black Tie is the vessel that is doing charter cruises along the waterfront in Ft Myers? I have seen her in years past. Leaving open the possibility that I am wrong- I do not believe her to be a Trumpy or Mathis build or design. She does not appear in current USCG Doc records as she seems to be a FL numbered and registered boat. It would be curious to know if she has an old Doc# from which one could pull an Abstract of Title from the Coast Guard. That info may perhaps document her past owners and builder. She is certainly a handsome Classic.
