I'm sure he was dying for a cigarette (or even a Cigarette) when he hit dry land.

Thanks for posting that K1W1.

Hi,

When you PM'd me about posting a link I looked for what you were on about and couldn't find anything.

I did a quick search this morning and it was No 2 in the result string.

Following your instruction I now, just this week, have learned how to post a link.

Next years task it to learn how to capture, paste and post a photo without a Moderator moaning its too big. A photo is photo size, isn't it?

Grouch!

Dave, we keep pics under 640 pixels wide so people on smaller screens don't have to scroll sideways. Keeping pics within these specs also enables faster thread downloads. Remember, it's not the physical size of the photograph, it's the bandwidth it consumes. There are some other reasons as well, but best not discuss in an open format.

Thanks!

Sorry, you miss the point. I first have to learn how to capture a pic and then post it. Its taken me a year and a half to learn links.

You are talking to a computer crapologist with fists of ham and I'm not the only one. We S-L-O-W learners who don't have a 12 year old nephew to show us what to do have to learn how to do it ourselves, not easy.

Get a cetrain very well known brand of computer. After 10 hours a day for 6 months on the phone with their tech support in India you'll have a college education. In the mean time just play, explore and understand there really is something besides YF and porn on the internet. I'm older and probably slower than you and I've only been messing with computers since just before I came on YF so there's hope. I din't even have a 12 year old to teach me, but that is highly recommended.

I feel your pain brother! I used DARPAnet for a decade with the Defense Department, long before the World Wide Web. It was easy compared to other programs I worked in, such as AutoCAD, which was... at the time... one of the most advanced (read: difficult!) software programs in the world.

FWIW, AutoCAD is mere child's play compared to vBulletin, which is... IMHO... the most powerful, most comprehensive and equally, the most complicated software available from an Admin perspective. BUT... it's the BEST!

For end users, it's a bit daunting at first, but once you learn it, you're good to go on any number of leading forums. Mostly, I chose it because it was highly customizable and lent itself well to the SEO technology I developed. Something most don't know... I knew nothing about HTML when I started this, but by 2005, the vB development team asked me to become a beta tester of their software. I respectfully declined. Too little time.

Dave, if you or anyone else EVER has a question, please don't hesitate to ask. Lars and Kevin are equally adept and always happy to help. If YF has nothing else, we have the world's best mods.

Ed,

We have an IT guy at work, and yes, I sit in front of a computer all day, who starts every question I ask him with some rubbish about how many terragiggs I'm running. .

Living in the Islands I'm lucky to get 2.2 meg in the middle of the night; heck we've only got 4 channels of TV to disappoint us.

I still have my Sinclair ZX81 home computer from school with 1K of power and some handwritten Basic homework sitting in its box in the loft( Sinclair was the Uk's first home computer for less that $75).

Computers are just tools(Oh I can see this sentence going horribly wrong) but I missed the middle bit when they became whitegoods.
